[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 5183643, member: 289"] I’ll continue to keep track of how teams did against ranked teams. Just something to look at in evaluating teams. The formula is to give teams points based on the ranking of the team they played: 25 points for playing a #1 ranked team, 24 for #2, 23 for #3, down to 1 point for playing #25. (A shortcut: subtract the number of the ranking from 26). Then you add in the net point differential of the game. Example: Navy lost to #13 Notre Dame 3-42. The Middies get 13 points for playing the #13 team but lose 39 for losing to that team 3-42. Net points: -26. Let’s see who had the best result each week and who accumulates the most points over the season. WEEK 5 Alabama beat #2 Georgia 41-34 = +31 points Arizona beat #10 Utah 23-10 = +29 Kansas State beat #20 Oklahoma State 42-20 = +28 Kentucky beat #6 Mississippi 20-17 = +23 Penn State beat #19 Illinois 21-7 = +21 Notre Dame beat #15 Louisville 31-24 = +18 Georgia lost to #4 Alabama 34-41 = +15 Virginia Tech lost to #7 U of Miami 34-38 = +15 Minnesota lost to #12 Michigan 24-27 = +11 Illinois lost to #9 Penn State 7-21 = +3 Louisville lost to #16 Notre Dame 24-31 = +3 Mississippi State lost to #1 Texas 13-35 = +3 Auburn lost to #21 Oklahoma 21-27 = -1 Arkansas lost to #24 Texas A&M 17-21 = -2 Baylor lost to #22 Brigham Young 28-34 = -2 UCLA lost to #8 Oregon 13-34 = -3 Wisconsin lost to #13 Southern California 21-38 = -4 Michigan State lost to #3 Ohio State 7-38 = -8 Houston lost to #18 Iowa State 0-20 = -12 Stanford lost to #17 Clemson 14-40 = -17 Oklahoma State lost to #23 Kansas State 20-42 = -19 South Alabama lost to #14 Louisiana State 10-42 = -20 Washington State lost to #25 Boise State 24-45 = -20 This was a week when a lot of teams played really well against ranked teams. 12 teams earned positive points. There were 5 upsets. There were several great games, headed by the Alabama-Georgia classic. There were no -40 or -50 blow outs. The guarantee games have played out by now.
