I’ll continue to keep track of how teams did against ranked teams. Just something to look at in evaluating teams. The formula is to give teams points based on the ranking of the team they played: 25 points for playing a #1 ranked team, 24 for #2, 23 for #3, down to 1 point for playing #25. (A shortcut: subtract the number of the ranking from 26). Then you add in the net point differential of the game. Example: Navy lost to #13 Notre Dame 3-42. The Middies get 13 points for playing the #13 team but lose 39 for losing to that team 3-42. Net points: -26. Let’s see who had the best result each week and who accumulates the most points over the season. WEEK 7 Texas beat #18 Oklahoma 34-3 = +39 points Oregon beat #2 Ohio State 32-31 = +25 Ohio State lost to #3 Oregon 31-32 = +22 Louisiana State beat #9 Mississippi 29-26 = +20 Southern California lost to #4 Penn State 30-33 = +19 Arizona State beat #16 Utah 27-19 = +18 South Carolina lost to #7 Alabama 25-27 = +17 Florida lost to #8 Tennessee 17-23 = +12 Mississippi State lost to #5 Georgia 31-41 = +11 Mississippi lost to #13 Louisiana State 26-29 = +10 Colorado lost to #18 Kansas State 28-31 = +5 West Virginia lost to #11 Iowa State 16-28 = +3 California lost to #22 Pittsburgh 15-17 = +2 Purdue lost to #23 Illinois 49-50 = +2 Oklahoma lost to #1 Texas 3-34 = -6 Arizona lost to #14 Brigham Young 19-41 = -10 Hawaii lost to #17 Boise State 7-28 = -12 Wake Forest lost to #10 Clemson 14-49 = -19 Stanford lost to #11 Notre Dame 7-49 = -27 Massachusetts lost to #21 Massachusetts 3-45 = -37 There were a lot of close games against ranked teams in Week 7 and a lot of ‘losers’ picked up a lot of points. LSU beating Ole Miss in a battle of highly ranked teams made me wonder if we were back in 1959. WEEKLY LEADERS Week 0 Georgia Tech beat #10 Florida State 24-21 = +19 points Week 1 Georgia beat #14 Clemson 34-3 = +43 points Week 2 Tennessee beat #24 North Carolina State 51-10 = +43 points Week 3 Kansas State beat #20 Arizona 31-7 = +30 points Week 4 Brigham Young beat #13 Kansas State 38-9 = +42 points Week 5 Alabama beat #2 Georgia 41-34 = +31 points Week 6 Texas A&M beat #9 Missouri 41-10 = +48 points Week 7 Texas beat #18 Oklahoma 34-3 = +39 points TOP 10 PERFORMANCES Week 6 Texas A&M beat #9 Missouri 41-10 = +48 points Week 1 Georgia beat #14 Clemson 34-3 = +43 Week 2 Tennessee beat #24 North Carolina State 51-10 = +43 Week 4 Brigham Young beat #13 Kansas State 38-9 = +42 Week 7 Texas beat #18 Oklahoma 34-3 = +39 Week 2 Texas beat #10 Michigan 31-12 = +35 Week 5 Alabama beat #2 Georgia 41-34 = +31 Week 1 Boston College beat #10 Florida State 28-13 = +31 Week 3 Kansas State beat #20 Arizona 31-7 = +30 Week 6 Vanderbilt beat #1 Alabama 40-35 = +30 Week 5 Arizona beat #10 Utah 23-10 = +29 TOP 25 CUMULATIVE Texas +74 Tennessee +64 points Georgia +58 Kansas State +58 Texas A&M +57 Kentucky +47 Vanderbilt +46 Boston College +45 Southern California +44 Brigham Young +42 Notre Dame +34 Minnesota +33 Alabama +31 Arkansas +27 Illinois +27 Washington +26 Oregon +25 Northern Illinois +23 Michigan +22 Ohio State +22 Penn State +21 Southern California +20 California +19 Arizona State +18 Boise State +16 Louisiana State +16 The worst game: Week 1: Furman lost to #6 Mississippi 0-76 = -56 points Worst Cumulative: Kent State -92 points Syracuse has +10 points. SU opponents: Ohio U. none, (meaning they haven’t played a ranked team: 0 would mean they played a ranked team and lost by the expected margin) Georgia Tech +14 Stanford -17 Holy Cross none Nevada-Las Vegas none North Carolina State -48 Pittsburgh none Virginia Tech +15 Boston College +45 California +19 Connecticut none U of Miami none
