[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 4465290, member: 289"] I’ve decided to simplify this. The last couple of years I kept track of how teams playing ranked teams did and how ranked teams did against unranked teams. The latter was too heavily influenced by schools that set up their non-conference schedules with uncompetitive opponents. It also took too much of my time. I’ll stick to keeping track of how teams did against ranked teams. The formula is to give teams points based on the ranking of the team they paid: 25 points for playing a #1 ranked team, 24 for #2, 23 for #3, down to 1 point for playing #25. (A shortcut: subtract the number of the ranking from 26). Then you add in the net point differential of the game. Examples: Central Michigan lost to #12 Oklahoma State 44-58. The Chips get 14 points for playing the #12 team but lose 14 for losing to that team 44-58. Net points: Zero. I’ll still list them because they’ve played a ranked team but their point total is zero. West Virginia lost to #17 Pittsburgh 31-38. They get 9 points for playing the #17 team but lost 7 points for the game result for a net of 2 points. Let’s see who had the best result each week and who accumulates the most points over the season. WEEK 13 Michigan beat #2 Ohio State 45-23 = +46 points Texas A&M beat #5 Louisiana State 38-23 = +36 points Southern California beat #15 Notre Dame 38-27 = +22 points Oregon State beat #9 Oregon 38-34 = +21 points South Carolina beat #8 Clemson 31-30 = +19 points Kentucky beat #25 Louisville 26-13 = +14 points North Carolina State beat #17 North Carolina 30-27 = +12 points Notre Dame lost to #6 Southern California 27-38 = +9 points Mississippi State beat #20 Mississippi 24-22 = +8 points Tulane beat #24 Cincinnati 27-24 = +5 points Cincinnati lost to #19 Tulane 24-27 = +4 points Florida lost to #16 Florida State 38-45 = +3 points Georgia Tech lost to #1 Georgia 14-37 = +2 points California lost to #18 UCLA 28-35 = +1 point Ohio State lost to #3 Michigan 23-45 = +1 point Oregon lost to #21 Oregon State 34-38 = +1 point Auburn lost to #7 Alabama 27-49 = -3 points South Florida lost to #22 Central Florida 39-46 = -3 points Michigan State lost to #11 Penn State 16-35 = -4 points Washington State lost to #13 Washington 33-51 = -5 points Kansas lost to #12 Kansas State 27-47 = -6 points Baylor lost to #23 Texas 27-38 = -8 points Iowa State lost to #4 Texas Christian 14-62 = -26 points Colorado lost to #14 Utah 21-63 = -30 points Vanderbilt lost to #10 Tennessee 0-56 = -40 points Comments: A combination of major confrontations, rivalry games and teams with a shot at the playoffs running up the score.
