AI in coaching (not about Allen Iverson The Answer)

I mean imagine this scenerio, where AI is used to review and analyze your next opponent, and clips and videos are being compartmentalized and shown to individual players on opponent players' tendencies, strengths and weaknesses.
As a tool to process and interpret large quantities of data for purposes like this? Absolutely. 100%. I imagine there's already AI/machine learning elements deployed in the model building aspect of analytics departments.

Using it real-time in a game to direct players on court? Nah. That's wayyyy too much for a human being to process in real time and react to. We're just dumb animals at our core, remember.

I had chat gpt watch a baseball swing by my kid and it came back with accurate feedback. It could just be hallucinating what it thinks I want to hear but it's pretty impressive that it picks out the one thing I was thinking of that I didn't say in the prompt.

I do worry that AI will further "solve" games, which can make them less interesting to watch

Stupidity can be entertaining to watch

I do remember a Shane Battier interview where he said once he was aware of the analytics it encouraged him to strip the creativity out of his game.

He said it made him a better/more efficient player but a more boring one.

Agreed - NBA teams aren’t taking all those threes because it’s fun to watch - they’re essentially counting cards.
