Paying off the father seems to be the way to go these days as it's just like the same thing as with UNC academics.

I am sure he didn't know either.The NCAA needs to grow a real set and take these issues head on.

The Bowen thing is starting to concern me. The fact that he/the player was cleared is disturbing. They are saying it was his father, and he had no knowledge of the payment. Not possible in anyway. This is going down a bad path. If he is cleared in this and plays this year, its over for the NCAA. Although it might already be... Quinerly is still in HS. We shall see with him.

The NCAA would be smart to say a payment to family is a payment to the player. They are one in the same. Remove the ambiguity.

Next, they should enforce one-year of ineligibility that applies to any D1 schools. Kids would have to drop a division to play immediately (or JUCO).

That would plug any loopholes and show they mean business.

Then they have to address how to punish the schools and coaches, if the investigations prove they knew or helped arrange the payments. Even if it was a booster, the program should still be penalized.

The NCAA is a spineless jelly fish that is being run by big money. I've said this before but this smells just like the steroid era in baseball. Everyone knew the guys were juicing but Baseball was raking in the dough. Why bite the hands that feeds them. The biggest hypocrite of them all, Bud Selig, ends up in Cooperstown. The NCAA is going to continue to roll over as long as everyone's pockets are being lined with gold.
