There are probably a lot of reasons for that: obvious coaching failures, athletic department dynamics, and the still unclear structure of what a “GM” actually is in modern college basketball, including what he could and couldn’t control.

Going into the season, I sincerely thought many of the moves he and the program made made sense. Obviously it didn’t work out, but from the outside it still felt light years better than what the program rolled out the year before.

I suspect he will ultimately be very successful. And honestly, I’m glad no one let me write op-eds blaming unnamed haters and losers when I had my own professional failures. If you’ve been told since high school that you’re a wunderkind and then things fall apart when you get your big chance, that has to be difficult.
