People don’t want to admit that because it is an ugly thing to face. It’s hard to admit that John Wildhack is likely correct in the reasoning which partly fueled his decision to retire, that being the notion that it’s not sustainable for Syracuse to compete at the highest level in either major sport in the NIL era. Because that means facing the possibility that a core aspect of what makes our region unique is going to die if nothing changes.

I’ve been accused of having an agenda or being a hater for pointing this out, as if I want it to be true as someone who was a season ticket holder for almost a decade until COVID and went to my first basketball game the day they named Jim Boeheim Court when I was 8. But really I just want to see the university do something about this. We can still make the moves we need to make to save basketball. I hope we do.
