All I just hope we have some DBs we can recruit and insert into the lineup next year. I would be recruiting every DB possible who could help the team. Also I would move George Morris from RB to LB to infuse some speed into the LB corp.
I think the offense looked good in the 2nd half. So no venom for the offensive coaching staff. We came out flat in the 1st quarter but only had 1 possession in the 2nd quarter and did score on it.

Besides the slow offensive start, this loss falls on the shoulders of the defense IMO.

Or nah

Ellison has made more tackles on the kickoff return team then any DB not named Cordy on our team. He played CB in High School for a good program, and at least he goes after people. They need to get him up to speed, and in the game, he might make mistakes, but he will hit people, which our DB's for the most part don't.

The offense could have helped the defense today. USF is a team that you want to force to play catch up.Where was Fredericks in the 1st Q? Strickland didn't touch the ball until late. I don't get all the option calls when we have a QB who can throw and guys on the outside.

Hopefully next week they come out and let things loose a bit more.

The slow offensive start is part of the reason why the defense, IMO, was so offensive in the second half. You can't leave your defense on the field the entire first half in 90 degree weather and expect them to hold up.

Brinson at DB and Bradshaw/Harper at Safety. Only 4-5 spots left i think

Fair enough, I wish we came out in the first half throwing more and STARTING Fredericks.

YES. I was absolutely baffled seeing Morris out there for the first 2 drives. He looked like he was running in quick sand.

IMO its important to start out well psychology. Fredericks just seems to always get those extra couple yards that we need.

D was barely on the field in the first half. We had an 11 minute drive in the second quarter.
The D wasn't worn out in the first half. They were just owned in the 2nd half.

I understand playing upperclassmen if the talent level is about even, but it's clearly not. Not even close.

Is the real problem with the secondary the coaching or the talent? Fair question, IMO.

I think we're fielding 3/4 of a solid secondary. Not sure that either Whigham or Morgan are good enough to play CB.

Secondary has never been a strength in the Shafer era and these guys are the least experienced (talented?) group.

They were on the field most of the first quarter. Offense gained 30 yards in the first quarter.

Before this game, his ypc were the same as Fredericks. 5.8.

I agree with you, but I doubt that the offense will be more wide open next week, unless we fall far behind.

Shafer doesn't coach to win - he coaches not to lose

I'm going back through the game, looking at the defense. USF absolutely KILLED us on the edges. Front 4 did a good job not giving up much in the running game. Also did a good job in collapsing the pocket on pass plays.

We need DBs. Bad.

So are you sayingit's coaching?

ha, the more i think about it i don't know. The players aren't that talented and they're technique is always poor. So maybe the coaches because they recruit them, coach them and put them out there? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think that number may be a little deceptive. I would like to see the breakdown on field position when those carries occurred. Jordan was running a lot of wildcat in short field or condensed situations...That has a tendency to bring down those totals.

Morris and McFarlane are decent backs. Nothing wrong with either one of them. But Fredricks is above average, to their average. He should be getting the bulk of the snaps.

That doesn't mean that these guys shouldn't see the field in some capacity, or that we can't have a two back platoon [or whatever]. But the equal snaps BS needs to stop. Play your best player the majority of snaps, and then sub him situationally.

Lewis needs to go back to receiver, Cornelius, and Avant are missing in action through 5 games. They may know the offense, but can't get open enough to take pressure off Steve, and Brisly. Strickland has more catches as the 3rd H-back then those 2 combined.

Am I the only one who thinks it might be the scheme? Not saying the secondary is sterling, but I'm constantly baffled by how far off of receivers we play. It's a product of so much heavy blitzing I know, but...yikes. I'm wondering if our talent isn't QUITE as bad as we think; they're just not good enough to be left on islands the way we have them.
