There was a thread on here that posted some old Cuse football games on youtube. I found myself watching the first half of the 1996 gator bowl. I told my friend that an Allstar team from the past 15 years wouldn't beat a single team from the late 90s.

Which led us to think about an all star team from the past 15 years...would love to see what you think of this team? Who am I missing? Would they beat a late 90s squad?

QB-Ryan Nassib

RB-Deloane Carter

RB-Walter Reyes

WR-Alec Lemon

WR- Johnnie Morant

WR- Mike Williams

TE-Nick Provo

OL- Adam Terry

OL-Justin Pugh

OL- Andrew Tiller

OL-Sean Hickey

OL-Macky McPherson

DL- Chandler Jones

DL- Dwight Freeney

DL- Arthur Jones

DL- Jameel McClain

LB-Clifton Smith

LB- Marquis Spruill

LB-Derrell Smith

DB-Sharmarko Thomas

DB-Joe Fields

DB-Tanard Jackson

I'm leaning yes - a great question.

Especially running 2012's offense under Hackett.

Freeney, Nassib, and Williams would be really hard to contend with.

Should Freeney be on the All-Star Team, or with McNabb since he played with him his senior year?

Also, was 1997 more talented a team than 1998? I would say it's better by a hair. Darius, Ponds, Tebucky Jones, Jim Turner, healthy Q. Spotwood.

Fun exercise though. I think the defensive line for the all-star team with Freeney would be tough to stop, although Chandler wasn't as good in college as he's been in the pros.

Offense with McNabb, KJ, Spotwood, Mungro, Dee Brown, McIntosh, Konrad, JTurner would still score points. And if the game was played under the pretenses of current football, if that group went hurry up it would be extremely tough to stop.

Tough one to figure out. I think the best team we had may have been that '95 Gator Bowl team. McNabb, Harrison, Sir Mawn (Jason) Wilson, Jim (the burner) Turner, Kevin Johnson, Konrad, McIntosh, Malcolm Thomas, Rolland Williams and Kaseem Sinceno, Darius, Bazille, Sharpe, Antonio Anderson, Tebucky Jones, Hemsley, Morgan, Ponds were a good LB corps, Kevin Abrams may have been a senior on that squad, Phil Nash was a good corner... more or less an NFL caliber player at every position. I don't see that team or the '92 team getting crushed by the all-star team. The O and D lines may have been a bit less talented than the all-star team, but they went against and held their own against better NFL level competition too.

Just reading the list of those names brings back memories. I hope we can approach that caliber of player at those positions. We had some very talented teams during the 90's!

I agree with Freeney being part of the previous era rather than the current era. He was here for the last four of the 15 straight winning seasons. I've always fantasized about a combination of McNabb on offense and Freeney on defense. It would w=have been similar to Auburn's national title team of 2010, with Cam Newton and Nick Fairly.
