In response to earlier articles on Syracuse fans.com..Re:All Time Black Lacrosse players at Syracuse University …Craig Hammond No.23 midfielder 2004-2007. Initially I want to thank all of the fans of Syracuse Lacrosse for remembering the exploits of No.23-Craig Hammond. He had speed to burn, as they say and was definitely a crowd pleaser. He was No.23, others called him Scooter (for his style of play), but I called him Craig, my son. Very few knew how hard he worked on his preparation for his career at Syracuse, but he was up to the challenge. He brought with him- dedication and a strong desire to win a National Championship. He chose SU because he loved their style of play. There were many doubters along the way, telling him not to continue his pursuit, but he listened to his own inner voice for guidance. I’ll always remember the standing ovations he received and I said then as now, son you made the right choice- follow your dreams. I also remember that during a playoff game against Colgate U, win by SU, a family, unaware of who I was, told me Joe excited they were to watch Scooter play and that he was their favorite player. Most of all I remember the children, who flocked to him after each game to get his autograph. He also received multiple MVP awards for his performances, helping SU advance to the playoffs. In summary,No.23 - Craig Hammond, never met a challenge he didn’t accept and never let his teammates or fans down, when everything was on the line because he thought TEAM first , not personal glory and all he ever wanted was the opportunity to perform and win in front of Syracuse fans and Coach Desko gave him that chance. Also Time Warner Cable brought attention to No.23 with an interview and game highlights, entitled ‘Getting to know Craig Hammond- demonstrating how he controlled the pace of the game. Sincerely A proud father Robert Craig Hammond
