I mean, in DC, for example, I could ignore all the huge touristy things and still point to the Caps/Nats/Wiz pro sports franchises, the restaurants and nightlife in Georgetown, the Shakespeare Theater in China Town, the Kennedy Center, Eastern Market,  ... the list goes on.

But it's so much more than that -- you've got the opportunities and areas to live and work. You can live/work in an area like Capitol Hill and work in the sentate/house buildings. You can live here and be in high-level academia, or work for the government or get into the K Street stuff, or work at one of a dozen huge, highly respected medical facilities or any one of a huge network of businesses and non-profits, high-powered law firms, huge publications, etc.

Now, don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying syracuse doesn't have cool places to live/work or that it doesn't have major advantages over DC. People literally go insane dealing with traffic here, the capitol hill stuff is as tiresome as it is interesting, there's crime, there's the cost of living ... the list goes on. But in terms of things to do and opportunities, it's simply tough for the Cuse to compare apples to apples on that.
