1963 SU grad here. Yeah, I remember the good old days at Archbold Stadium and the #44 history. I have hated on Notre Dame since that field goal with zero time left that cost us an Orange Bowl bid. How can I forget .G. Skibbie the field judge, and Father Hessberg who wouldn't return the victory to us, even though the NCAA rules committee decided we had actually won. Can I let go of that hate? Yeah, it is slowly subsiding. However, this is a basketball post, so i had best get on track.
I just watched a Notre Dame BBall team knock off The Tarheels and Dook on CONSECUTIVE nights. I kinda took a liking to Brey and his team...the new ACC kids on the block. So, I think that maybe tomorrow I'll go out, dig a hole, and bury the hatchet.. By the way, I have read this board since inception and find it informative and quite funny at times. You good posters know who you are. Thank you, keep it up. Finally to my point....
In the ACC playoffs I watched this senior guard Connaughton run like a rabbit around NC and Dook , while playing great D and O for the entire game. Rarely ever took breaks. He was able to hit his shots when his team.needed them. A money performer, if you will. Did Brey need to lower his minutes so that his shots would fall? No. Now, my point. Why are some posters claiming that Cooney needs rest in order to finally be a productive shooter? At 20-21 I could run and ball all day. I played in many a tough singles match going the full five sets. With plenty of time outs, phooey on the "needs more rest" baloney, especially playing zone. I think Joseph and Cooney are the slowest tandem we have ever had at the guard positions. Opposing guards nave shred our perimeter all year. Not hating on Cooney, as he is doing his best, but both he and Joseph have been caught from behind on too many run outs this year. They are just both slow and not really good shooters. I think we improve perimeter defense once Cooney moves on. Jury still out on Joseph.
Have fun with this, guys. Take Care, Scott (retired in Roatan)
