The other P5 conferences still must schedule within their three remaining games a P5 team, thus 10 games against P5 teams is probable, especially if a team wants a shot at the playoffs where SOS is at issue.  Rebuilding teams would not be forced to play the 10th P5 game but they would be less likely to get a shot at the playoffs.

Ex: Assume Michigan plays its 9 conference games and picks up Oklahoma in a one-off, made for TV special with a MAC team and a 1AA body bag game while Clemson plays its 8 conference games plus its annual South Carolina games but schedules a 1AA body bag game, a weak Sun Belt conference and a mediocre CUSA/AAC game.  If the two are vying for the last spot in the playoffs and have the same record with comparable losses, Michigan will get selected over Clemson because of the SOS.

Note: Playing 10 P5 games also makes a delineation between the P5 and the remaining conferences without breaking away from the NCAA or creating a new division.
