Marrone took a risk by hiring Hackett, believing that he (Marrone) was providing the adult supervision on offense.  It turned out OK in 2010 (with a strong defense) and not good in 2011 when the offense had to carry a weaker defense.  But, as I have posted before, the bigger issues were talent -- not recruiting an impact WR, a running QB, or a useful second RB -- and Marrone's conservative approach.
I am not surprised that Marrone is sticking with Hackett (who now has 2 years under his belt as Marrone's deputy dog) and -- ideally -- trying to fix the glaring issue with coverage and return teams.
