Just about everything that we are saying about AJ we were saying about Hunt a year ago. At the beginning of the season the word was that Hunt had improved greatly. Simply was not the case.

AJ has unimpressive stats in the four games he has played so far. He has thrown 128 passes and completed 72 for 727 yards  (5.6 yards per attempt). A 56% completion rate. He has 4 touchdown passes and 6 interceptions. Let me repeat that - 4 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He also has a fumble lost. That is 7 turnovers in 3 1/2 games - an average of 2 per game.

He has rushed 31 times for 84 yards and 100 yards of loss for a net of -16. He has had one rushing TD. Excluding the losses he has averaged 2.71 yards per carry.

If we had any other QB ready, AJ would be benched.

He is an 18 year-old teenager who is simply not ready to play D-1 football as starting QB. Not his fault of course, but his performance is because he is not ready not because of injuries or anything else. He make rookie mistakes and will continue to.

We have no idea if he will improve enough to start or if he will plateau or even regress like Hunt. We simply don't know.

The QB position is wide open and will remain that way until kickoff next year.
