Andy is going to OKC's camp

He would be fun to watch in that system. Just let him catch and shoot.

Wishing the best for him.

It's the perfect fit for him and with OKC payroll concerns going forward if he makes the team there will be a real opportunity for PT in 2013-2014. The Harden deal may not get done.

scotty brooks is exactly the type of guy to make andy successful in this league.. andy has the grittyness and bball iq to go with a sweet shot.. add to that he doesnt have to play backup pg like the knicks toyed with..

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Harden spot doesn't get filled by Andy. But, while we're dreaming...he's going to light up MIA in the Finals too...and OKC is going to play zone.

If you followed the NBA then you would know that OKC just sign Ibaka to a 50 mill deal, which will make it very hard to sign Harden because OKC is not willing to become a luxury tax payer. Both Harden and the GM have express concerns that a deal may not be possible. Harden is in the last year of his rookie deal and it is believed that if a deal cannot be reached by the trade deadline he will be moved since letting walk via free agency doesn't make sense.

None of which changes the fact that even if Harden leaves Andy Rautins will not be filling his role.

Also I wouldn't be so sure OKC trades Harden; they may choose to keep him and try and win a title this year, and maybe they can work a sign and trade in the summer.

I think that's how it will go down.

I agreed I didn't mean to imply that Andy would "play his role" I meant he can take some of his minutes if he leaves and notice I stated 2013-2014 season because I'm not convinced Harden will be traded mid-season either . With Russell and Durant OKC will need spot up shooters and that is what Andy is.

By the way you can't do sign and trades anyone with the new CBA. Its trade them or let them walk.

If Harden leaves there will be open minutes at the two but I really don't think Andy is a serious contender for them.

Not true. There are more limits on sign and trades, but I believe those don't kick in until season after next.

Under the current CBA a player receives the same contract via sign-and-trade (four years, 4.5% raises) that he could get by signing with his new team directly, and can receive a larger Bird contract only if he stays with his previous team. In addition, it is much simpler for the player to sign directly with his new team, as a sign-and-trade has to be agreed to by three parties rather than two. A player is really only forced to seek a sign-and-trade if he wants to go to a team that is capped-out (or doesn't have enough cap room to give the player his full starting salary) and can't sign him directly.

So it is still technically legal but they have removed the benefit of doing a sign and trade. Plus the receiving team would have to be a tax payer, which the Lakers seem to be the only team that is adding salary regardless of the taxes

I believe it's the opposite of that; you can't do sign and trades if you are a tax player.

  • Starting in 2013-14, the team receiving the player cannot be above the "apron" ($4 million above the tax level) after the trade1.
  • Starting in 2013-14, the team cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade if they have used the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception (see question number 25) that season.
My main point was that sign and trades are still allowed.

Correct starting 2013-2014 you cannot do a sign and trade if you are a tax payer after the deal, until 2013-2014 there is no reason to do a sign and trade because the player can't receive his bird rights contract in a sign and trade deal only if he stays with original team. So the dollars are the same why do the trade when you can sign him directly. By the way next summer is 2013-2014 so I was right he cannot be signed and traded, or at least there is no economic benefit to it.

Yeah I realized that next summer would probably start the 2013-14 season.

But if Harden wants to go to a team that is over the cap (or is close enough to the cap that they couldn't afford to pay him in year 1) then he could still leave via the sign and trade.

I feel like OKC should bite the bullet and try and figure out a way to keep Harden. I think he's better than Ibaka.

Harden stunk it up in the NBA finals and cost himself a lot of money. He needs to have a big year to get the max that was a for gone conclusion before the finals started. He maybe better an Ibaka, but Ibaka is harder to replace rebounds, defends, hits the open 15ft, and blocks shots at 23 only guy in the league like that. I believe OKC can still amnesty Perkins to help with the cap situation, but they need him to bang with Howard tough call.

Yeah Harden definitely hurt himself in the finals.

They probably pretty much have to amnesty Perkins after the season. He doesn't seem to be the same player as he was, and he's on the hook for about $18 million in 2014 and 15 combined. Ibaka/Durant/Westbrook are gonna make about $44 million in 2014. The tax this year is around $70 million, it might go up $1 or $2 million, but they're gonna have about $25 million to play with.

Yup and Troy Weaver is the assist GM and knows Andy's game very well. It's a perfect situation for him, but that doesn't mean he is good enough to stick in the league. It just means the situation gets no better.

See Marc Stein's Tweets

I wouldn't be surprised if Harden is traded before the season started.

The Mavs will certainly offer Harden a max deal next year.. but, I am still failing to see how Andy fits into the missing Harden pie.

Can Andy be a cheap 12th man, sure... but, if he couldnt get off the bench for the Knickerbockers, why would he see court time for the 2nd best team in the NBA ?

Because the better your teammates are the less you have to do. Andy will get more open shots than he has ever had in his life! All he has to do is make them at a high percentage. Westbrook will be guarded by the best defender and will guard the opponents best player. Andy is an NBA specialist the Knicks needed a point guard.
