Another 2014 Commit Kicker Evan Jakubowski

Sorry guys. He's a preferred walk-on according to his Father.

damn TOS!!! I received the commitment alert email and was so damn excited about our first 2015 commit. Happy to have this new Kivker, but come on 2015 recruits! The dominos have to start falling at some point!

This is a road that the coaching staff needs to use more often in regards to the kicking game. I think the new coaching staff is aware of this and will do so.

There have been countless numbers of legitimate programs that have had walk-on kickers/punters play for them.

The fact that we have had three kickers on scholarship at the same time is a poor use of scholarships, in my opinion. Two, tops. Then fill in depth with walk-ons.

Exactly, unless the kid is like the FSU kicker (Aguayo), who simply never missed, let them prove themselves as walkons, first, and then earn a scholarship. Honestly, with the Dome, we should always have a top 10 kicker in the program, and think of the advantage it gives you to have someone versed in kicking inside a dome who can score points for you anywhere inside the 45ish yard line.

Kraut was solid until he got hurt and put on some extra tonage

We need Freshman Kraut back fully healthy because Norton is not the answer.

Because they are state schools that don't have exorbitant costs to attend. No kicker/punter is coming to Syracuse as a walk on and paying 60k a year unless they have no other offers and can get aide from academics.

Riley Dixon did. He was awarded a scholarship.

He didn't pick us over other BCS schools that offered him scholarships/preferred walk on status.

He's also from Camden. (Blossvale, I know. But what's the difference?)

McConnellsville?

No kidding. None of the walk-ons we get will ever pick us over a BCS school offering a scholarship.

But that doesn't mean there aren't capable kickers out there that can provide depth at the D1 level as walk-ons. And eventually develop into adequate backups or in some cases work their way into starters (Dixon). Even at a private University you can offer competitive financial aid packages - and sell a better education.

Do we really need a kickoff specialist (Norton)? If we have an extra scholarship, sure. But I'd prefer to see extra scholarships used on non-specialists.
