It’s not sudden death. Both teams get the ball at the 25 yd line.Ignorant question -
If S.U. wins a coin toss prior to overtime against Pitt, and Coach Babaers has a choice between starting on offense or defense - in a sudden death situation (next team that scores wins the game), why on Earth would he or anyone ever not choose offense? I just checked the rules, but couldn't find a compelling reason to go D.
Please be gentle with me. I've been watching football since people named "Roger" ran the huddles.

You make a good point. Give the D a break and go on offense. Assume you need a TD , and try to get it. The D really needs this bye weekIgnorant question -

Defensive td wins the game, but I believe you go offensive. Score a touchdown and put the pressure on them to score as rest the dYou make a good point. Give the D a break and go on offense. Assume you need a TD , and try to get it. The D really needs this bye week
You go D first so you know what you need to do on O to either win game or extend game.Ignorant question -

D didn’t lose this in OT. Dungey did, or whoever called that incredibly awful pass play on first down.
Generally, yes. But not when your defense has been taken behind the woodshed for the last 6:00 of game time. You go D first so you know what you need to do on O to either win game or extend game.
Cheer up! It took us until week 6 for the annual nut kick.Another kick to the nuts.
We’ve averaged 4.67 wins per season since 2002.
I can’t keep doing this.

And the extra minutes of rest was going to change that?Generally, yes. But not when your defense has been taken behind the woodshed for the last 6:00 of game time.

Probably not, but it probably didn't help the offense's morale to watch Pitt run the ball down the defense's throat yet again, to start OT with a TD.
Did anyone actually think that we'd stop Pitt? If we'd taken the ball and scored, maybe we'd have put some pressure on Pitt to match our score.
And no, this isn't hindsight - I posted the same thing after the coin toss in OT.
Dungy’s confidence is not going to be impacted by the D.
Idk if he puts that in the corner of the end zone it's a touchdown
Watch the replay. He got hit as He threw it.So the question is why did Dungey throw the ball like one of Hoff’s punts? Was he afraid of the rush? That’s a play where you throw on a rope and lead the WR to the back corner. That was a jump ball.
Would not have made a difference. We were loading the box and they were still gashing us. Frustrating, I know. Nothing worse than when everyone in the stadium knows what is coming and you still cannot stop it.Knowing that he needs to lead the offense to a TD in order to keep the game going probably doesn't help.
Besides, the mantra we kept on hearing last week was that the D was exhausted, and the offense needed to give the D more rest. So why not give them a few extra minutes of rest?

Completely agree on that. Wideouts and Dungey clearly not on same page on several throws. Growing pains..
Didn’t see that. So he should have thrown it OOB basically. My other question all day was why we didn’t run some short slants to soften up the middle. They were up in our grills on the outside, closing off those routes and giving their D line the extra 2 seconds to collapse the pocket. Just surprised we didn’t set up some short pass routes that Dungey could hit on the run.
Also, noticed a couple of times that Dungey looked a bit frustrated that guys weren’t looking for the ball. I think he hit a guy in the back once. Guys were obviously missing routes and not on the same page. Happened more than once. Refs missed a couple obvious holds on our WRs in the second half. Also missed a huge offensive hold on one of Pitts big plays. Our guy was there to make the tackle in the backfield and was grabbed over the shoulder.
You and me both man, we’ll probably be back at it soon though.I am never talking this team or program up and trying to get others on board, ever again.
I end up being wrong, every single time.
