We were a serious bubble team prior to the self-imposed ban (hence all the national publicity that this was a lame move because Syracuse was questionable to make the tourney anyway, etc.) I also recall that many felt that possibly they would play more inspired because of same...treating every single game for the remainder of the season as the last.
