That said, I do think that people get a little too carried away in regards to Ryan's pocket presence. He isn't an overly smooth athlete, very herky jerky, but it's hard to tell how good his footwork in the pocket is if he doesn't trust that stepping up will ultimately avoid a sack. Too much of a weak link in the middle of the line, mixed with Hay's ole blocking on the outside, and you have a slaughter on your hands. It would not shock me if during workouts (and neutral conditions) Ryan actually was given solid grades for his footwork.

Ultimately though, he isn't good enough to get drafted without intangibles, and he does posses some of them... but if he can't become a leader on and off the field as a 5th year senior, who has owned the job for 3 years... nobody is going to take a shot on him with a draft pick.
