I checked in for some of the game, channel hopping last night. They are not a bad team. USF has some decent size on defense and smothered Jayvaughn Pinkston, who shot 1-13. Not a great team, but not an automatic "W", pushover kind of team, either. They remind me a bit of recent vintage Cincinnati teams.

I have watched them a couple of times this year as well. They are decent but can easily get steamrolled. Georgetown smoked them by 30 at home. Big test for them at Pitt in their next game.

Home game for us (and probably a punchers chance of clinching the regular season title) I think we roll them big time.

Apologies in advance for looking ahead and potentially jinxing us.

If we beat Rutgers on Sunday, we could clinch no worse than a first-place tie with a win against USF. Would we get a regular-season championship trophy after the game Wednesday night (as we did after the St. John's Senior Day game in 2010)? Or does Notre Dame need to lose and eliminate itself before any championship is awarded?

ND needs to lose

yea no Wayns last night made it s lot easier for USF, but they beat them on their home court earlier, but Nova was really struggling then, and they had been playing better, but Wayns is the leading scorer and leader in general

that said USF is a very tough defensive team and will try to take from ND's game plan and slow it down and play defense, but I do not think they are a very good shooting team

Why is it that Notre Dame always has a guy that looks like Buzz from Home Alone? In the middle of them putting up 20 points and 10 rebounds, you are like "how is he doing this?"

I watched a good part of the game...

USF is good... I think the announcers had it right... they are big and athletic and have a propensity to play up or down to their competition (the G-Town blowout withstanding)...

I think they'll have a tough order with the Cuse, but if they come out and play most of their game firing on all cylinders, they'll give us a nice challenge.

I was also surprised at how bad Nova looked...

You could also see that Jay Wright is starting to come a little unglued... he got T'd up for arguing with the refs on no-calls... The no-calls were arguable incidental contact but not definitive muggings or anything... He is obviously very stressed by how poor his team is playing.

Nova just looked horrible... I saw two or three fast breaks where nova had 2-1 or 3-1 and they lost the handle or bad passed the ball out of bounds. And they're defense isn't what it used to be...

USF is good... but Nova also beat themselves to a certain degree.

that happens when you take away a teams best player, who also happens to be the PG and leading scorer, and most veteran player

This is what I wrote while watching last night:

also watching USF/Nova . . . granted Nova really stinks this year, but I have been impressed with the Bulls. Not the best collection of basketball players I have ever seen, but Heath has himself a bunch of athletes who are willing to defend. That could be a real trap game for SU - little home contest in between roadies vs. a traditionally weak opponent. USF really defends the interior; if someone from SU doesn't hit from outside, they could be ripe for an upset there.

ND needs to lose
will be rooting for two old rivals on Saturday. ND at Nova, Marquette at UConn. Let's go Cats & Dogs!
Home team wins in those games plus an SU win at the Girls on Sunday gives us a 3 game lead with 3 to play. Tiebreaker eliminates MU; just 1 win in last 3 would eliminate the Irish.

I've seen them a bit and echo what others have said. Team that plays good defense regularly is athletic but also can struggle to score and once behind by double digits they really struggle in catch up mode. Also they really only seem to have the one real PG, a common problem for teams this year we are lucky.

Watched some of it. Kind of hard to gauge with Wayns out and Nova being such a poor team this year. I do recall seeing a stat where USF is 0-5 against top 25 or top 50 teams...

0-5 against the top 25, 1-5 against top 50

Well, they're 9-4 in conference. They've been blown out twice among those 4 losses, and a couple times in the OOC season, but that's not a bad team. We have to take them seriously.

They're not a bad team and I've always thought Heath was a great get for them. I don't think they're good enough to beat us. They're not going to roll over, but I just don't see how they can stay with us for 40 minutes
