Hi, there. A group of about 7 or 8 of us had a Syracusefan.com Fantasy Soccer (Original Football) league last year, and it was a lot of fun. The season kicks off this weekend, so if you might want to join, now's the time to do it.

You can create an account here: Fantasy Premier League, Official Fantasy Football Game of the Premier League

Then once you sign in, you build your team, and then look for the Syracusefan.com group.

We are talking about pitching in $10-20 each, so the winner (depending on how many join) could get himself (or herself) a jersey to celebrate their victory - not required, of course, you could buy $100 worth of Hoffman's hot dogs. It's totally your call.

Hope to see you there! The more the merrier.

I’m a Crystal Palace fan (which is a bigger shock to my friends in Toronto than being a Syracuse fan), so I might be interested.

What’s the structure of the league? I’ve never done Fantasy Futbol before.

You have 2 goalies, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 attackers in your team. You have a 100M budget.

Defensive players get points for clean sheets, players get points for goals and assists of course, there are points awarded for various advanced metrics. If players get hurt, you have back-ups in your squad.

You can play a variety of formations, but you always must have at least 3 defenders and 1 attacker.

You get one free transfer per week. You can save them up and make multiple squad moves at once. Your captain gets double points for the week. There are wildcard "chips" where you can pick a completely new squad for just one week, or you can play a different chip and give your whole team a reboot.

ESPN had one a few years ago, but it was very simple, boring and predictable. The Premier League's version is really enjoyable.

Here's a link to the basics: Everything you need to pick your 2024/25 Fantasy squad

Is there a code

If you're a new Fantasy Premier League user, here's a couple of quick helpful gameplay hints on how to approach the season.

Your bench players are numbered 1, 2, 3 when they're not on the field. The number correlates to who's the first to sub if a player is benched or injured in real life. As an example, if you have Haaland as a starter & he doesn't play, if Alexander-Arnold is bench player #1, he'll be subbed in even though he's a defender & Haaland is a forward (This will change your formation). If player #1 doesn't play either, then player #2 would be subbed in, etc.

Your "chips" (added benefits to your gameplay for a week) are limited to one use each for the whole season, so you probably want to hold them for a bit.

It's always beneficial to have players who play consistent, starter minutes. It's a long season, players who play a lot matters. It's also nice to add players who are specialists, i.e. Free kick or penalty takers, defenders who play advanced positions & so on.

Enjoy!

Then look for Syracusefan.com as a group. I forget if there's a passcode. Mine just carried over from before.
Appreciate the info Matt! Seems like a cool concept.

Currently in two pretty serious fantasy football leagues and my government mandated fantasy hockey league, so I think I’d be spreading myself a little thin joining up.

Unfortunately need to pass this year.

Nuts just seeing this. Have a team in another group but if I can replicate/join one here I’m in

Looks like I need a league code.

JDubbin do you have it? Looks like the deadline is in 45 minutes...
Hey gbo, sorry I missed this, my notifications didn’t let me know I had been tagged. You can still hop in the Syracusefan.com mini-league, even though week 1 has started you’re still allowed to join I believe. It’s not too late! Here’s the link ROCcuse has been sharing to get in:

It's not too late. Link to join group just above this post.
Over 38 game weeks, if you miss the first couple games, you have plenty of time to catch up.

If I had a team in another league . Do I still miss the points for this league because I joined after Friday in this leagu? Seems like it shouldn’t matter because my team still had to set.

Maybe one week. But if it's only 40-50 points (average score) over 38 weeks, you can make it up by being just a couple points better per week..

What's going to be interesting is the approach of "Get the best players" and then build a team around them with what you have left. Versus, try to buy the best dollar value for Fantasy Game Points per player. I've chosen the latter approach.

If you have to pay 13 or 15 dollars for an elite striker, but you can get someone who produced pretty similar points per game for 8 or 9, I'm saving the money, and investing it through the rest of the squad.

Now, of course, when star players are on hot streaks, they are predictable, and making one of them captain is a solid bet.

My approach is to have a deep playable bench, good points per dollar value. My only downside that I see is the unpredictability of who is going to be the player who has "the good week" each week.

Ok so I'm not sure if I'm in the league or not but I have points from GW1. Can they be brought into the group?

I would send a direct message to J Dubbin. I think he set it up.

gbo, if you sign on to the fantasy premier league website, click on the "points" tab on the top of your page. You'll see the field & the players you had selected & their total points for Gameweek 1. On the right you should see a column of info: Team name, kit design (if you made one), Premier league teams you follow, etc. scroll down & you'll see the leagues you're currently participating in. It looks like this:

If you're in the Syracusefan.com mini-league it'll be listed under Invitational Classic Leagues. If not, use the link below to get in there!

You can tell I'm not on the football board often . . .
Didn't get a notification when you tagged me either JDubbin

Thanks again for making a post on a few of the boards, IthacaMatt

JDubbin shared the direct invite/link to join the group above.
Thanks all for joining!
