Anyone think Golden gets the boot at Miami

I heard his name mentioned with the UM opening the other day. Not sure I believe it. Didn't he remove his name from PSU last year? I think he gets one more year in Miami no matter what.

9th in yards per play on offense, 14th in yards per play on defense!!

That should be an 11 win team right there.

they've had a lot of turnovers but not enough to explain that.

They're 117th in plays.

Without watching much Miami, here's my not-shocking guess. Golden is a meathead primarily concerned with his defensive numbers so he refuses to go uptempo even though he really should.

The only way you can beat miami is to white knuckle it and Golden helps you by white knuckling himself

When you are that good in yards per play, you need to amplify that margin as much as you can and go as fast as possible.

If I were the AD, I wouldn't fire him because this kind of per play advantage has to eventually show up in the win column eventually but I would lecture him about this and then fire him if he talks back

they're over 2 yards better per play than their opponents. How in the world do you end up 6-6? Even if Golden is a giant meathead, that is some horrible luck

Miami: Once again, Miami AD Blake James has reiterated, “Al Golden is our coach and will continue to be our coach.”

6-6 all that talent?

They and Pitt way under performed in wins vs their production on both sides. Miami combined ranking was 63 for total offense and defense, 13th best this year. SU's was 64, 17th best in 2012. I've said before SU under performed in wins by at least two based on their overall performance that year.

This year of the top 20 teams with the best combined rankings ECU (8), Appalachian St (7), Miami (6), WVU (7), Pitt (6), OU (8) have less than 9 wins. Only six wins based on the statistical performance is really underachieving.

Miami and Pitt are the first teams in three years to have a combined ranking of less than 80 to have less than seven wins.

Only five teams in three seasons have finished with 7 wins, out of 70 teams, that finished with a combined ranking of less than 80.

minnesota and rutgers kill me in 2012. way better in yards per play but 4 picks

I think he has the administration's support for being a "Mr. Clean", especially in light of the Nevin Shapiro stuff.

The true frosh qb helps him too. They should be a 9-10 win team next year, if not he probably will be looking for a job

Returns and bizarre turnovers against NWestern, did Smith ever have another fumble. Blocked FG, 10 pt swing against Rutgers, that's the whole game.

Jobbed against Cinci.

Don't forget the 4th and inches for a TD and we took the FG vs Rutgirls.

I think that was Reddish.
Yep it was Reddish. He had a great season, and a very very good career for a relatively lightly recruited kid out of NYC. Just imagine if he was able to make the simple catch and run with that Cincinatti pick 6, or when he got caught by the Penn St OT in the season opener last year.

I'd like Miami to get really good again.

I miss hating them.

I can hate them even when they are not good - as a matter of fact, I enjoy it better!

Nah, sports are better when there are villains. Was there a better villain than those 80s and 90s Cane teams?

There was an electricity in the Dome when they came to town that was palpable. It's not the same when their 7-5 or whatever.

They will be preseason Top 10 next year maybe even preseason Top 5, so that might and probably will save him for at least 1 more year.

Although if they did fire him that is a place where Schiano could land. He has ties to the program and would be the kind of hire that the fan-base and school wouldn't hate

Agree. He may have very well played his way into the draft and is a good kid to boot. However, I think he was the most heavily recruited kid in that 2011 class. He had an early PSU offer and UVA wanted him pretty badly.

Was going to say the same thing. Penn State doesn't offer lightly recruited kids.

That being said, he was our best corner in a while. Maybe Tanard Jackson? Steve Gregory? Although both of those guys moved to safety at the next level, whereas I think Reddish could have a chance to be a decent NFL corner in the right system.
