AP top 25 week 2

Clemson can still make the CFB but they will need help.

Cy-Hawk trophy is a top 10 battle.
So our crossover game is against the highest-rated team from that side? What.

It's how we do.

We always seem to get a crossover who is having their best season in X years, the season we play them.

Because - Syracuse.

I see this complaint about our crossover games, but its not really true. Seven crossovers since we joined the conference (excluding last year) and we're 3-4. Only three of our opponents were really good the year we played them, the other four were mediocre to bad.

2019: Duke (5-7) -- win
2018: UNC (2-9) -- win
2017: Miami (10-3) -- loss
2016: Virginia Tech (10-4) -- win
2015: Virginia (4-8) -- loss
2014: Duke (9-4) -- loss
2013: Georgia Tech (7-6) -- loss

If Cincinnati goes undefeated they are going to make the playoffs.
Disagree, if there are 4 one-loss P5 teams they won't make it. The playoff wasn't created for a G5 team to get in, regardless of how strong their OOC resume would be.

Beating ND in South Bend SHOULD get them in, but it won't.

Can't Coastal pay off SC to let them play Clemson instead in the Thanksgiving weekend finale?

So FSU went the distance with #8 ND and isn’t ranked yet Miami still is after having their bottoms spanked on national television by Bama. Weird.
I suspect they’re ranked by the time we play

If Oklahoma and Tex A/M lose, Cinn. at #7 would go by them.
If Bearcats beat ND/Indiana and Tulane on the road...run the table
and Clemson looks shakey but win, I can see Cincinnati being #4.

It would be better for them if @ ND was toward the end of the season. And a possible win @ Indiana lost some of its appeal this past weekend.

Even the UCF game is in the first half of the season. Their last 6 games will excite no one.

I think they have a better shot at it than last year, because conversations like this are already happening. But it's an uphill climb.

Best bet might be to get/accept a Big 12 invite during the season, get some kind of committee support from that.

The AP rankings literally don't matter when it comes to the playoff.

Even if they did, there is literally zero chance Cincy gets in over a 1-loss Clemson team who only lost to an elite UGa team.

BC should get ranked purely on the back of their very easy start to the schedule and a tilt vs Clemson early. They could knock off Clemson too.

If that one loss Clemson team narrowly beats ACC low lifes??
I mean much of what we're seeing/hearing so far is that the ACC is weak compared to 2 years ago.

boy do I hate preseason rankings

rankings should not be publicly released until week 6

The AP should privately rank the top 50 preseason, and update it week after week, and then publicly release the top 25 in week 5 or 6.

Clemson might not play another ranked team all season, what makes them so special if they squeak by some garbage competition?
Cincy absolutely will be ahead of them if they go undefeated.Totally different than last season.

NC State if they win this week will be ranked when they play Clemson.

The ACC will have ranked teams.

Because they're a P5 team. The system was built to benefit P5 teams. You're being naive to think that with playoff expansion in a few years they'd jeopardize their monopoly this year because Clemson didn't win by enough.
