Again, not thens of this franchise by any means.IN FACT BTW Hello Jacoby Ellsbury and goodbye Robby. The Yankee$ iOS about out for Cano. On t others now. Its official as far as what has been spent and what will be spent. The team just jacked the offense. The outfield defense as well. Ichiro is the weak link out there.

Umm they can still resign Cano and stuff
Sure they can but the real question is "will they?"bNow he will want more than Jacoby and that is doubtful. I wouldn't be betting any money on that happening. I think the Yanks are geared up for a hard line with Robby. I think the A-Hole disaster management is going to be very careful of any long term large dollar deals aside from Ellsbury which is as much about sticking it to the Sox as anything else.

sounds like a lot of money. I wonder if the Yankees were bidding against themselves.

Ellsbury was getting over $100 mill from somewhere, Choo is getting over $100 mil. When Number 4 starters are getting 11, 12 mill its a high market.

Yankees will give Cano up to $190 probably but no longer than 7 years.

Not sold on Ellsbury. he is 30 yrs. old with injury issues. I wish the Yankees had used the money to go after pitching which they desperately need. If Ellsbury is worth 150 mil. how much will they have to pay Cano.

Which Pitcher that is out there, barring Tanaka, would you want? Keep in mind handling the AL East and NY

Cali, this isn't about sticking to a budget or sticking it to the Red Sox or playing hardball with Cano. This is about putting the best team possible on the field in 2014. They aren't finished. They will lock up Cano and address the pitching as well, dollars be damned.

I can't but stop laughing at this contract and I am a Red Sox fan. I am not upset Ellsbury left or even that he went TO the Yankees. I was upset when the Red Sox in 2005 hardballed Johnny Damon on a 3 year contract rather than just giving him a 4th year. This deal is different if the Red Sox got Ellsbury for the reported 6 years 120 million they offered him I wouldn't have liked the deal. The Red Sox have won 3 World Series since 2004 the anger and fear has been completely sapped from me. I hated the 2012 Red Sox and the September 2011 Red Sox were horrible to watch. Los Angeles allowed them to cleanse themselves. Jacoby Ellsbury is a fine baseball PLAYER but he isn't one of the top 20 players in all of Major League Baseball and I wouldn't pay this guy who can't stay healthy for over 162 games 20 million dollars for 6 years when he is 30 years old. While is an elite baserunner easily the best MLB his OBP is below Daniel Nava on the Red Sox. I mean this contract just shows how good Scott Boras is.

I can't believe Cashman signed Ellsbury to a 7 year contract when isn't one of the top 5 OF in MLB when they are hardballing Robinson Cano on 8 years when he is the top 2b in MLB and probably one of the top 5 hitters in MLB right now. I mean Cano has to think he is getting 9 years 225 million now if Ellsbury is worth 7 years 152 million with an easy option for an 8th year to make the contract total 169 million.

This deal doesn't stick it to the Red Sox one bit. I and most Red Sox fans felt Ellsbury was gone as he had Scott Boras as his agent and I didn't think the Red Sox would offer the most money.

When Number 4 pitchers are getting 11-12 mill a year the price for a top 10 WAR player and arguable the #2 free agent is going to be high

You are right in that there is not much out there. All I could find was Matt Garza and Ervin Santana. I wish they would have signed Brian Wilson who signed with the Dodgers. Without some additional pitching the Yankees are not going anywhere, and who is going to be the closer now that Mo. has retired. I don't see how they sign Cano after giving Ellsbury this contract. Scott Boras is a genius.

Either way it its not a big deal. Jacoby will help only if he remains healthy and that is a challenge in itself. I might have gone back to Grandy but now it appears the Mets are in tight with him. His injuries were inflicted by thrown pitches not breaking down YET. the Yanks need Pineda or Campos to be relevant in the rotation.Adam Warren will be given every opportunity as well.

Santana wants a 5 yr $100 mill contract. No way. He is a season removed from a -1.3 WAR. Wilson had said he would not cut his beard to play in NY. I think Robinson can fill in the closer spot, a dynamic 8th inning guy, it is a different mentality and even Mo struggled in 97'. Cano can still sign between $170 and $189 mil and Yankees will still be under the $189 mil cap they put themselves on.

Campos is still in A ball, a long way away.
