Go take a look at the Arizona St-Notre Dame boxscore. I'd post it here but I'm not really sure how to. It is almost an exact replica of the syracuse boxscore against ND.
ND committed 5 turnovers to 1 turnover in both games.
Arizona St had about 3 more mins of possession time then syracuse but still less then ND.
Syracuse outgained ASU by 17 yards
Notre Dame only gained 36 more yards against us.
Arizona state ran 5 more plays then syracuse and had 5 more first downs.
Notre dame ran 1 more play against us and had 5 more first downs.
Notre Dame scored exactly 31 points in both games.
The biggest difference, Arizona st won 55-31 and we lost 31-15. It honestly looked like we we had no chance of winning that game all night even with all the turnovers and here Arizona St is winning by 24 with basically the same stat line. How is it possible for us to play basically the same type of game as Arizona st and lose handily?
One possible reason? We are undisciplined and had 10 penalties for 85 yards. Arizona st had 3 penalties for 19 yards. Iv been saying it all year, this is an undisciplined team. As evidenced by the 6 offsides penalties against Duke. It's been happening all year with no accountability. Players celebrate individually when we're losing by 2 td's. I'm just sick of it, and I don't think we will ever win consistently until we play disciplined football and I'm not sure that will happen under Shafer and that's why I think he is in over his head. Game day decisions, lack of discipline, lack of fundamentals, etc. The list goes on, this is just one example.
