Man, this is really sad. Art was such a nice and joyous person. My roommate had a mutual friend with Art so we had talked to him once or twice around campus. He asked if he could chill for a bit, because the party was a bit out of control and he didn't want to get into any trouble.

So we're just hanging out, mind you, he's totally sober because he didn't drink during the season. Some drunk kid comes staggering past behind the house and says hey I recognize you!

Art convinces the kid he's a high diver on the swim team, and the guy buys it and starts asking him about making the smallest splash or whatever and Art is convincing enough that this guy believes a massive DT is a high diver.

Fast forward to the weekend Art gets drafted and I happen to be back in Cuse visiting. I see him at Chuck's, just mobbed with people. I make my way through the crowd to say congrats and when he sees me I start with, "You probably don't remember me, but..."

He cuts me off and goes "High diving!!!"

I congratulated him and wished him the best of luck in the NFL and said, "It's a pretty great night to be you!" He had a grin from ear to ear.

Great football player, and a great person too. Gone way, way too soon.
