Article-The Kentucky Wildcats are not the best team in college basketball

Pity me here in Connecticut. The UConn women's team is the only thing people here want to talk about this week.

The largest average point spread or scoring margin in the JB era has been the Louis & Bouie show, backed up by Danny Schayes, at 17.2 PPG (1978-79). Big scoring margins are not compatible with the JB zone.

Wow - I'm sure there is some D3 school that's super dominant some years too.

Can we PLEASE schedule a game between UK and the UConn women? Hell, between LeMoyne and the UConn women.

Between a slightly above average local highschool team and the uconn women. The highschool team would bury them by 30. The Uconn women scrimmage against men's intramural teams, and lose handily.

This article is embarrassing to say the least.

That is on par with saying that whomever wins the NBA title is not the best basketball team this year because UK (possibly) went undefeated.

It is a very stupid, ridiculous comparison.

UConn women are the UCLA men of the 60's and 70's. You have to give them credit for their dominance, but that article was just crazy. The UConn women play great basketball, but the competition basically ensures they will be in the Final EIght every year.

id say you went overboard, but i agree any d1 men's basketball team beats uconn women.

I don't really like these comparisons. It is like if I fought Ronda Rousey. She would kick the crap out of me, but if she fought a trained male fighter she likely wouldn't win.

I don't like UConn men's basketball, but their women's program is just flat out dominant. Obviously it helps they get to keep all their players four years and they get top recruiting classes each year. The women's game just needs a couple more teams capable of winning and the sport would be better. Seven of the eight 1 or 2 seeds made the Elite Eight.

I wasn't exaggerating. Men's intramurals teams scrimmage the Uconn women and beat them very easily. There's no doubt a good highschool team would beat them. The sheer size and strength of men would be too much for the uconn women to handle. Make no mistake, they are a GREAT women's team, but men are built differently so it would be very difficult for them to compete.

your comment is dumb. you can't qualify the talent and abilities of a men's intramural team. i've seen some men's intramural teams that were beyond terrible. using that example is just over-the-top and stupid. i'd agree with you that the kids in the mcdonald's game last night would blow the doors off of uconn women's team. that's fair. but "Between a slightly above average local highschool team and the uconn women. The highschool team would bury them by 30" you are kind of being an ass about it.

I'm being correct about it. I played high school basketball with a guy who went to Uconn. He was an average high school player. He played intramural ball there and scrimmaged against the women at times. He is not the type to make things up. I'm being honest. No need to get all heated at me for speaking the truth.

I myself was a below average high school basketball player who at times played in scrimmages with a couple of girls who went on to play D-1 ball at smaller schools. I was significantly better than them...and I was the 10th man on my high school team. These are all facts. I'm sorry if you don't like them.

When I played juniors, a team in our league played the US Women's Olympic hockey team. This was a random team of high schoolers against the world's best women's team.

The junior team was up 8-0 at the end of the 1st.

I just don't understand why people get so bent out of shape with these facts. These women are great, great players in the women's game. Men and women are built differently. My comments are not meant to be a slight to any female athletes. Genetically, they are designed differently. That's all there really is to it.

I went to UCONN for my M.S. back in the mid 90s. I was a good basketball player (a top level intramural player both at SU undergrad and UCONN grad) but a much better general athlete (leaper, fast). Some of us did on occasion play against the UCONN women, but it was unusual for a structured scrimmage v. the full squad to take place. While the women were skilled in most instances... the strength, speed and "explosiveness" advantages we men had were huge. To be honest - and not to denigrate the women - but it felt like playing against a men's JV high school squad. The other thing is that even if you play against JV men there's always a couple of standout athletes who can easily dunk or are super fast, etc. You do not see those explosive outliers (relative to male athletes) at all in the women's game.

A third "Battle of the Sexes" match, entitled Battle of Champions, was played at Caesars Palace in Paradise, Nevada, in September 25, 1992, between Jimmy Connors and Martina Navratilova, aged 40 and 35 respectively. Navratilova had previously turned down invitations to take on John McEnroe and Ilie Năstase, as she considered them undignified.[13] The promoters initially tried to match Connors with the then top ranked female player, Monica Seles. Connors called the match 'war'. Navratilova, on the other hand, called it a battle of egos.[16]

The match was played under hybrid rules to make it more competitive; Connors was allowed only one serve per point, and Navratilova was allowed to hit into half the doubles court. Each player received a $650,000 guarantee, with a further $500,000 for the winner.[17] Connors won 7–5, 6–2.[18] Navratilova made 8 double faults and 36 unforced errors. Connors, too, was nervous and there was a rumor that he had placed a bet on himself to win at 4:1

Even with some insane disadvantages against him, Jimmy Connors still crushed Navratilova who is probably the best womans player ever.
