With Dino Babers making reference to the idea that they might be mixing and matching personnel here through the first 3 games of the season, who do you believe to be the best front 5?

Do we agree that Servais, Heckel, Adams, and Vettorollo are the first 4? If so, who is number 5? We don't know much about Alexander, and he doesn't seem to be winning the job outright, so might we have someone else?

There's been no indication that Alexander isn't starting anywhere but LT. It's him at LT, Servais at center, and Evan Adams starting somewhere on the right side. We know that. I think Heckel won't start season. I think E. Adams and D.Davis at guards, and Vettorello at RT with ultimate goal to have Heckel at C and Servais at RT.

Game 1 they need to be more mistake free than anything else. It might be more about the pieces that can do what they need more than do what the want

Game 2 they need to be getting it figured it out . again protect the QB and run the ball.

Game 3 they need their A game and hopefully the oline they really want to see on the field. We will need to be solid running and passing to win this game

Serva C Adams G Davis GAlexander LT Tisdale RT,Thats my call

Alexander Adams Heckel Tisdale Serv

Left to right from Tommy’s perspective

Vett rotating in at tackle and Davis rotating at guard

My guess
That seems good and right to me. Let's go with it

Servais at T is ideal but he's not going to start playing tackle 14 days from the opener.

LT Alexander
LG Adams
C Heckel
RG D. Davis
RT Servais

Week one starters.

Im not sure if Heckel is trusted at center. I believe that might be a bigger issue than his injury.

Ah, man. We can guess or hope particular guys win spots. I will guess week 1 starters will be Alexander, Dakota, Servais, Adams, Vett. With a possible mix of Heckel at center and Servais at RT. If Dakota gets banged up, Heckel will go to guard and Servais at center, Vett back at tackle. It sounds like Tisdale might be in the mix too. Those are the top 7 ( not sure how P Davis is developing) We do have 7 capable lineman. Possibly 8.

There will e a starting 5 but getting them reps at multiple positions will benefit us if injuries happen
I look forward to the day when our offensive line depth will make this unnecessary. Might be a couple more years though.

What I want(and hopefully get, after a few games)

LT Alexander
LG Adams
C Heckel
RG Dakota
RT Servais

What I expect
Lt Alexander
Lg Heckel
C Servais
RG Adam's
Rt Vett/ Tis

Dakota as a rotating G.

Servais is our best. I think it comes down to whether his line calls at C, are more valuable than his pass pro at T.

Just out of curiosity, what's the thinking behind moving Adams to the left side?

Dunno. Depends on philosophy. Sometimes you'll want your better pass protector at LG, and the better Run blocker at RG. Other times, you may leave the RG on an island more, so the better pass pro there. We DO pull the LG (and even LT) quite a bit, so it could come down to who is the more effective pulling guard.

It could also come down to where they value experience, more.

My guess? Maybe Heckel is a better puller, then Adam's, then Dakota? Adam's most balanced? It's all a complete guess without knowing their assignments, but there is definitely a reason. I dont think we have any worry at Guard, however it shakes out -assuming health.

A year or 2 ago, Babers said Adam's was his best lineman. Have to think he's still the best Guard.

The staff will always rotate people if nothing as to see if they play better at another position

If Tisdale or Vet is that good at RT I would rather have Servais back at C and Heckel at LG. Definitely

Its to help out on TD blindside. Cant have missed assignments at G with a newbie at LT

Alexander is fine. But yes, imo, sometimes you put your better pass pro guard there. If they are not leaving RG on an island? Absolutely.

I'm starting to think that Heck may be LG, and Serv C, based on HCDB comments on the line situation extending 2 or 3 weeks. You cant hand over C to Heck without him having more experience at line calls. I am very biased in wanting Servais at T. Hes our best lineman, and I've always felt he was a natural T. Very hard to find. (Sub 5 second 40, 4.6 shuttle) So, grain of salt.

I'm not biased in saying Servais is our most important piece on the line this year. He's the guy we need healthy.
