Found a couple of highlight clips of SU games of the 60's on You-Tube

SU loses to Navy 14-27 in 1967. We came into the game 3-0 with the #1 defense in the country. Larry Csonka is at fullback, Tom Coughlin replacing Floyd Little, (sort of) at halfback and Rick Cassata at quarterback. Some of our plays look kind of what we are running today with Smith and Hunt.

SU beat Notre Dame in 1963, 14-7 in Yankee Stadium. This game had been scheduled for 11/23/63 but was postponed to 11/28 because of the Kennedy assassination. We gained "revenge" for the controversial 1961 loss at Notre Dame but I'm not sure how many people cared at that point.

Jim Nance is the fullback here. #44 is Bill Schoonover, who had the number between Ernie Davis and Floyd Little. The '63 team, like the '67 team, went 8-2 but not to a bowl for reason that are hard to understand, even with the limited number of bowls in those days. Notre Dame was 2-7 that year but there are several familiar names on the team. They became familiar when Ara Parseghian took over the next year and went 9-1 with the same players.

Why the heck did the refs blow the whistle on that fumble recovery in the Navy game? The players on the ground clearly never gather the ball in. The SU player scooped and ran. Should have been a touchdown.
