In 1988 Barry Sanders, in 11 regular season games, carried the ball 344 times for 2626 yards, (7.6 per carry), and 37 touchdowns. He also caught two touchdown passes for a total of 39 touchdowns. In the 62-14 Holiday Bowl win over Wyoming, he carried 29 times for 222 yards, (7.7) and 5 scores. He didn't catch a TD pass. That's a total of 44 touchdowns in 12 games, inclduing the bowl game.

Montee Ball has already played 13 games, inclduing the Big Ten title game. He's carried 275 times for 1759 yards, (6.4) for 32 scores and has caught 6 TD passes for 38 scores. He's have to score 7 times vs. Oregon to really break Barry Sanders record and then he would have done it in 14 games.

I have no problem with including bowl results in individual stats for the season. In basketball NCAA tournament stats are part of the season stats. But they should do it retroactively so we don't have this phony breaking of records. Also, like basketball, everything should be in pre game averages. Sanders scored 3.67 touchdowns per game. Ball has scored 2.92 TDs per game. Not even close.
