LODGING - For anyone looking to bring their family and turn this into a longer vacation, I have a fairly high-end condo on the best beach on the island available for rent if you want to be able to cook your own meals and avoid cheesy Atlantis (it's fun for a day but for the money it should be significantly nicer and meals are ridiculous). I just had a long-term tenant move out and I am now going to rent it shorter term so I can get down there and use our old home. 3bed/2bath, two large balconies.development is small but has 24 hour security guard and two pools and workout facilities and is roughly 5 years old. I can arrange for gourmet prepared meals to be delivered made by a Michelin starred French chef at a very reasonable price, and there is a fully stocked modern kitchen. I'm limiting myself to 2 week rentals in general, but I would consider a shorter stint for someone looking to see Cuse. Downside is you'd need a car or would have to be willing to ride the jitney (whish is actually totally safe and kinda fun, but just not something Americans are used to)- there is a company called Virgo that rents used Japanese cars that are what all the locals drive, much cheaper than the big brands and usually more availability - Virgo is the best. Please pm me if interested. To DO - I'd also suggest ignoring people who say the only good stuff is on PI - it's true that downtown Nassau is not that nice anymore, but it has some incredible colonial buildings under the layer of dirt and three wonderful restaurants (Greycliff - a true colonial experience, Taj Mahal - carribbean indian food in an old time English pub, and café matisse - really really good fish and pasta, way better than anything at atlantis, beautiful environment). there is also a quirkly little zoo that kids love, a cricket club where you drink Guiness while eating fried fish and watch Caribbean national teams compete against eachother down below the deck. But go all the waywest on the island if you can, you'll find incredible golf, unspoiled beaches, three of the highest end developments on the planet ( Old Forte Bay, Lyford Cay, and another new one I can't remember the name of), the place where jaws was shot, old sugar plantation slave quarters, caves with native drawings, and several very very good restaurants. there is money in Nassau, so there is nice stuff - you just need to know where to look. On PI, they won't tell you about it at atlantis because these guys wouldn't sell their land to them - but check out the Sivandana yoga retreat. Even if you don't do yoga, would never try it, and think it's ridiculous. It's one of the few untouched parts of the island and it is a tropical paradise. Also very good all veg meals served not to mention lots of single women from NYC who come down for classes.
