I'm watching an ESPN broadcast from Baylor. I assume it's coming from their indoor training facility. Wow, looks impressive. Blows away anything on the SU campus and explains why their program has taken off. I can now appreciate why SU needs this sort of facility. Hopefully the renovation plan they have in the works will allow us to compete for a higher level athlete.

RG3 has a lot to do as to why their program has taken off..

But RG3 picked Baylor over other programs...you need to get them on campus first. SU does need some "ShamWow" now.

We definitely need the "ShamWow" but I believe Griffin did not get very much attention out of high school for football. I think only Tulsa, Tennessee, and Stanford were after him as well as Baylor. I believe he chose based on track (he was tops in his events in high school). I don't the big boys really took him seriously, and he went for track and played football as well.

He didn't get a lot of attention but had scholarship offers from Tennessee, Stanford, and Nebraska? He was ranked the #3 dual-threat qb in the nation...

And what was Stanford in 08, how about Tennessee and Nebraska? Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, you know the recruiting powerhouses didn't even pay attention to the kid. He was known for track, what does Baylor, Tennessee, Stanford have in common? They are elite track programs, especially Baylor in the 400 which is his event I believe. He originally went to school for track

I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you, the fact remains Griffin did get recruited by the big boys. Just because he wasn't offered, doesn't mean they didn't recruit him. He also started 11 out of 12 games his freshman year so to say he went for track, is silly. He went to school for football, but also happened to run track

I believe that is a rule if I'm not mistaken. While you can run track, you must be on a football scholarship, not a track ship. So I agree, anyone who does that would seem to be at least equally interested in football and motivated to choose a school that appeals to their particular talents. Art Briles provided a great offense for RG3

As a Baylor fan and alumnus, let me clear things up with all of you. RGIII wanted to play football first and track second. However, the "Big Boys" did not want to offer him a football scholarship on RGIII's desire to play quarterback. These schools offered contingent on him accepting as a wide receiver or a defensive back. Art Briles at University of Houston was the only coach who offered him as a quarterback. When Coach Briles was hired at Baylor, RGIII followed. The rest they say is history.

And yes, facilities have done much for Baylor's recruiting. From the indoor facility where Baylor hosted its pro day yesterday (with EVERY NFL team represented) to its new upcoming outdoor facility, all of this has had positive impact on recruiting.

Syracuse needs an RGIII (perhaps Ashton Broyld?) to get some excitement in the program, to start winning games and to get alumni donating money. Nothing gets alumni donating more money than a competitive and exciting football team. Once that happens then we can work on a new indoor facility and gasp even a new football stadium.

RG3 ran a 4.2 or 4.3 in the 40. How fast is Broyld? Does he have that type of game-breaking speed?

This ^^^^. Griffin was only recruited as a qb by Houston. Everyone else recruited him as an athlete, much like McNabb.

I don't think anyone is claiming that AB has game-breaking speed, but that's not what makes RGIII great anyway. Whenever I saw RGIII play this past season he wasn't using that great athleticism to run up an down the field, but more to extend plays so he could make amazing throws down the field.

From what I've seen, AB seems like more of a big, strong runner than an elusive breakaway guy. Top schools wanted Griffin to play WR, they'd probably want Broyld as a TE.

Either way, we just hope that Broyld makes plays for us next season. I really am hoping that he is the impact player that we sorely need on offense.

This is what I had read back when he was a freshman, I thought this kid was awesome right away (track of all things was how I first saw him). I couldn't entirely remember what the status of the other schools were on the contingency of the offers outside of Tennessee, Nebraska, and Stanford wanting him as an athlete (position TBD later and he didn't like it). In a few places I had read that track was a big influence, so I assumed with the strong program in the 400H there that it was the reason, thanks for clearing that up!
