They beat an 8-0 ND team in 2002 coming off a win against FSU, so they were probably ranked higher than 9th. Since VT finished 9th for the year with a loss in their bowl game it's pretty safe to assume VT was ranked in the top 10 when BC beat them in 2007. So I guess you would be wrong.
