BC postgame thoughts

As a coach though, as much as I liked Dry Rub, he did similar things as George with wanting to make the spectacular pass rather than the smart pass and you can't allow that. That's just one thing of many Red allows.

Yeah his comment on Nait making the easy pass… more than halfway into the year as opposed to in camp is ummm a little late..

Thing is, I don’t believe Red has never addressed that with George. But for whatever reason, Nait simply doesn’t listen. Nor does anyone it seems.

Lots of teachers know things. A select few are great at getting others to know those things.

So, Red said on the ACC call today that they were supposed to foul before the three and they didn't. I don't know if that is better or worse.

Whether it's on Red or the players or somewhere in between, that is a pretty clear symptom of a larger disease. It's really too bad. Simple execution and we win the game. Bummer.

Red comes off to me as a leader who leads by suggestion and advice vs mandate. While that can be a very individualized thing and appropriate for some, it should not be something that it takes half a season to put the heat on someone to meet the expectation.

In this NIL environment, you are getting paid and agree to perform as a paid student athlete and thus you have to have more command and respect and be ok sitting someone for an entire half for example. These are more professionals than they are amateurs and you have to demand certain things and do so consistently.

Interestingly enough if people rewatch I think Autry got after George big time in the FSU game. Also JJ in the Pitt game I think. I know we won the games.

As people are stating though it’s just not taking.

1. Autry is far too inconsistent.
1A- the hockey line changes which make no sense.
1B. he is very up and down coaching. Sometimes animated and with it and other times pouting on the bench or lost.

2. The team leaders are way too inconsistent following the lead of the staff.
2A-Donnie our best player has been injured and now even without injury falls apart down the stretch against bad team.
2B- JJ our supposed 2nd best player. No need to rehash a million threads.
2C- George has not improved from last year and not been coached better. It’s the playground to him still. He’s just as likely to crush it at Cameron or Chapel Hill as he is do drop an egg against BC.
2D- the supporting cast. Kingz, Betsey, Kiyan, Sadiq. Jekyll and Hyde. Guess where they’re learning it from.

Red's role was to play the good cop. It will most likely cost him his job

And that’s on him. I was soooo down on him in the offseason before last for totally botching the roster. Some of the excuses for that were that he didn’t anticipate not having enough money, having guys come back for more, etc. My counter was that those things are his job. He *has* to anticipate everything. Is it difficult? Yep. Are some of the asks unfair? Sure. But that’s the gig.

All that is parallel to the good cop thing. He took the head job. He had to change his approach because being the head coach is meaningfully different than being an assistant. If he failed to think through how he was going to change his behavior towards his team then that’s on him.
