Bernie Custis, an African-American was Ben Schwartzwalder’s first quarterback and was denied a chance to be the NFL’s first black one as well. So he went to Canada and integrated the CFL instead. The Sunday paper had an excellent article on him.

Thank you. I was oddly upset by all the UCLA love during the Super Bowl. I understand that as great development and advancement too, but I always feel slighted when SU is not given it's rightful place in history. This is a part of our history we don't celebrate enough!

it gives a more favorable view of Ben Schwartzwalder than you see in "The Express", Jim Brown's autobiography or any articles about the 1970 black boycott.
