Three names to focus on this fall. Davis Heckel Adams
341. 300. 341.
With Eric gone we lose not only the heart of the team but an unbelievable playmaker with his legs. In order to take the pressure off Tommy it is imperative that we establish the run. Dino loves power football and we have the horses to play it this year. The middle of our offensive line is the core. Teams that are strong between the tackles are usually good. I look to these three linemen coupled with our RBs to become the identity of this years offense. If we can force defenses to defend our running game Tommy will have a field day.

First I enjoy this board , 2nd opinions right , wrong , or debatable don’t bother me a lick .
But let me just state a fact Tommy has the fastest lasered 40 and shuttle of any tested 2017 Qb . You want to see pocket feet ? Watch his senior and even Jr hudl . Yes Eric made things happen sometimes but he also left tons of makeable throws on the table . While sometimes making those plays sparks the team sometimes wrs get frustrated and than they get lazy with there routes . Of corse a Qb wants great line play and a run game Tommy has only played an equivalent of 2 games and over the course of the season his athleticism is going to show .

This offense doesn't set out to establish the run or the pass. The play is mostly determined by the defensive formation. If the defense has 8 guys in the box, we're not running it down their throats, we're making quick passes to take advantage of the matchups.
That said, you're right in that we need to be able to run effectively against a straight up defense to be most effective.

I agree. Its obvious that Tommy can make plays with his legs. My point is i hope to Gosh he doesn't have to. If teams are forced to respect our running game your Son is going to set the Dome on fire

I’m really confident in our Rbs , run blocking and pass blocking are 2 different animals.
Hopefully our new lineman can learn and gel quickly . On one hand lots of linemen got valuable reps this spring but 40% of our line has yet to practice a snap in our system. Tommy said the system isn’t overly hard but doing it at our pace is the challenge. 4 weeks and change until we hit the field!

Dungey played his heart out. He has no more eligibility. Time for T. Devito go step up. And he will. Add to TD, we have Adams coming off his transfer year. Adams is a great running back ready to explore and the ACC is the quarry of rock about to be shattered.

I am not worried about the passing game. I am not worried about the running game. I am not worried about special teams. I am not worried about defense. We may not win every game but we are not losing many games.

HCDBbplainly stated he expects to have 5k passing yards of more per season and over 2k rushing yard per season (he actually started two 1k yard rushers which indicates many more rush yards!). We are not there yet but we are on the way. Sure we lost some talent. HCDB has been developing the replacement talent and recruiting deeper.

Many pessimists will be pleasantly surprised this fall. Ignore those who look for the negative in everything will find it regardless. Enjoy the season, it will be fun.

I would argue that Servais is a true tackle, and its where i want to see him. However, there is some logic that may have him back at C. Experience.

The other benefit would come at G. Heckel/Adams. Last year, Heckel rotated the G position, keeping the middle fresher, against a tired defensive front. With D.Davis to fill that role, this year? I wont be surprised if thats how it plays out.

I want Servais at T, but there are some good arguments to have him at C.. i think it will come down to what they value most, and where we are at, at both the T and G positions.

Just when i cant get more excited about the season you give me another reason to be hyped when you talk about how athletic TD is and how focused the team is.

One thing that is very underrated given the way we play is the shotgun snap of our center. Servais was below average in this area, IMO, though he did get better.

Interested to hear how Heckel is snapping the ball. If he can put the ball on the money 90-95% of the time, it would give DeVito a split second more time to evaluate the defense and also give him more peace of mind than I think Dungey had with Servais snapping.

I’m more concerned about the tackles. Tommy’s highest risk for injury is a blind side hit.

How the C/T unfolds will be interesting. Keeping them healthy is going to be important. If Heckel goes down at C? While I believe Duerig is capable, I suspect Servais to go there, unless there is too much of a drop off at T.

If Servais goes down at C? Heckel goes there, and D.Davis takes over full time G. (Another reason i suspect him to rotate at G, if Servais winds up at C)

Servais staying healthy - regardless of position will be big. If Heckel is at C, then his health is also a priority.(they all are, but you get my drift ) If either guy is C, and goes down, it results in 2 position changes.

I do think Duerig would be fine. Its just based on Servas sliding back to C, this spring. Its entirely possible that we just didnt have another C.

I didn’t feel he did great at center. I think Heckel is a bit bigger and some people are more natural there. He is a true tackle with quick feet and long arms. He will be our starter there and do as well or better than Conway. Nothing against the big C but he did not do well at ND and it was really tough to watch. Serv will be awesome there and he is a puller which gives us more to work with there. Also I think Davis will kill people at guard. He is a mountain as is Adams.

Have we ever had bookends at Guard that go 340-350 each of muscle? These guys have been in camp Wolverine for a few years now.
As to Serv he was made to play tackle. He was too good to not start last year but with Cody and Martin center was his spot. I think the oline is going to end up being better than last years.

I totally agree. Our middle is gonna be massive. Serv being able to pull like he can can help a ton on counters. Pic the Clemson kid killing us last year as our backers were backing up and then havin that 315 lb beast on them as well. Didn’t work out but we learned. I like our line as my only fear is Rt. In 2 years Vito will be the man but just not big enough yet.

Your profile pic of Dungey celebrating with a backdrop of BC carnage...EPIC.
I have no desire to replace that Dungey celebration profile pic, at least not right away anyway.

Believe Tommy will be a better passer than Eric , but running isn't just about athleticism. It's will, toughness, and most importantly, instincts. Eric wasn't the fastest guy, but had all of the above in spades. Will be thrilled if Tommy does, too. Very excited about the season.
