Big 12: One (or maybe two) True Champion(s)

The self-righteousness the Big XII spews about playing a full round-robin schedule and having one champion nauseates me.

They are the Big TWELVE.

The entire reason that conference exists was to have a conference championship game. They sent 4 school from the SWC off to purgatory for that express purpose.

They only don't have one because 33% of the conference ran screaming from it and they wanted to pocket the $ they'd otherwise have to give to teams 11 and 12.

:bang:

gut reaction is that Baylor should sue the out of them

(i have no idea if they have any case, it's just an immediate gut reaction)

very mickey mouse NHL style revisionism there

dead horse alert...id like(expect) to see the entire top 6 win...but have ohio st jump the bevo's into 4th because of the Champ game.

back up qb throws a monkey wrench for sure, but the bevo.

How is this any different than how the BE handled things?

Neither BE fans nor the BE itself ever claimed to have one true champion. We had one representative, but co-champions. Big XII fans are a different story.

Without a championship game (which would require at least 2 more schools, split into two divisions) they've always opened themselves up to a co-champion scenario... just like the Big East. Heck, if Baylor and TCU both lose it'll be a 3-way tie. The "One True Champion" slogan was an oxymoron from the get go. A one-loss Big XII representative will have a worse record than any other one-loss P-5 conference champion, and should be treated as such.

I struggle with what the bevo should do. Would love them to have a championship game but if they add two teams to get there they'll water down their product ala B1G.

Bevo's conference should live up to its name. Add Cincy and BYU (if they can work out their scheduling issues... they were able to with other conferences) or a former SWC member (Houston, Rice, SMU).

Had this same convo with my cousin over Thanksgiving. Adding more Texas schools does nothing. Cinci would make sense and perhaps UCF. I completely forgot about byu. I was grasping for straws for options.

Anything that makes Bowlsby look more like a clown is fine with me.

BYU/Cincy and a Florida school most likely UCF would be the best move I agree but I also love the fact they don't have a championship game.

this bothers you how??

fla st, undefeated in a regular season 12 games, has to play a 13th to make the F4.

while tcu & baylor, get to play 12 and possibly get in??

total bullshlit.

What if the Big 12 did have 12 teams and Baylor and TCU were in the same division and they had a championship game? What happens then if they both were 11-1?

Then Baylor goes to the championship game. If they win they would play TCU in the national championship.

Oh wait, they're not in the SEC and the BCS is no more. ;)

Worst scenario is wins this weekend by Alabama, Oregon, TCU which are all safe bets.

And then wins by Baylor (fairly safe bet), Wisconsin (50/50), GT (I'd even put this at 50/50).

How does Bevo avoid getting 2 playoff teams?

If they're going to have that possible reward, then they need to have the risk. Which means if Ohio State and FSU win, then leave them out.

Won't happen though. TCU inexplicably being ranked #3 this week pretty much guarantees their inclusion if they beat a terrible Iowa State team.

theyre set up to get passed by ohio st & baylor.

they will win and go from 3rd to 6th.

i have faith in the committee.

but yeah, theres a scenario where they both get in and people will absolutely lose their shlit.

theres also no reasonable way for zona to sneak in.

and why do they have to announce the F4 15minutes before kickoff on sunday??

its going to be opposite Riggle's Picks, ridiculous.

I'm glad they're announcing early. I don't want to wait around. There isn't really a good time. There's hardly a non NFL moment on any given Sunday.

I also wondered if they wanted to give as much planning lead time to the traveling fan bases. They are a big part of this and probably the only good reason why FSU is being slotted at 4 so they get the 5.5 hour trip to New Orleans. How many FSU fans would travel to LA if they thought they'd have to go to Dallas the following week?

im all for early too, surprised theyre doing it at the end of the show as opposed to the top. id be more inclined to watch and then stick with espn. as opposed to now where ill just let it scroll or see if fox brings it up.

it would be very savy of them to put bama & fsu in the Sugar and Oregon & Ohio St in the Rose, wouldnt it...

FSU should welcome it. Would you rather travel out west and play Oregon because you feel better about having a #2 or #3 next to your name. Or get a closer trip where you can get close to half the crowd against Alabama.

Probably FSU people worried that should they win an OT squeaker against GT, but either Ohio State or Baylor completely rolls over Wisconsin/K State, that they'll get bumped altogether. If that ever happened, the entire system should be disbanded after one year and just go back to traditional bowls.

true, thing is, i personally dont see anyway that FSU doesnt end up in the 3 spot with a win on sat.

tcu is dropping after iowa st. sorry...thanks for entering the 1st ever Football F4 roullette, but you needed a champ game or a better last opponent.

fla st slides back up and we are going to get them in pasadena and hopefully the buckeyes in the bayou.
