Recognizing that Otto -- and only Otto -- rules New York City, the Big East slinked away from its prior threat to host the BE CHampionship Game in NY, NY. Perhaps it was inevitable that someone in Providence would figure out that USF vs. Houston at Yankee Stadium in December was a recipe for disaster. Whatever the reason, the Big Apple remains what it has always been to perceptive observers -- the Big Orange.

the good news is, if they are putting all this in place for 2013...Syracuse is OUT.

No kidding. Can you imagine them getting this all worked out, but staying stubborn on SU and Pitt? And then watching SU or Pitt host a Big East Championship game? Not worth the additional money. Cut a deal at half price, and everyone move on.

Yep - has to be. Otherwise why even discuss this. Good news.

This is a very smart decision by the BE. Honestly, I think that every conference should let the title game be hosted by the top-seeded team. The Pac-12 knows that they aren't getting 30K fans from Washington to shlep to Glendale or L.A., when a bowl game is 3-4 weeks later. ACC should do the same, IMHO.

(gratuitous self pat on the back) the Kaiser Playoff option.

just like the NFL, you play all year to host a playoff game, the extra $$ for the school is a bonus award.

the neutral site is the bowl game.

Oh Lord

Generally agree, with the exception of the SEC. They have turned that game into an event. Everyone can get to Atlanta somewhat easily (even though they'd find a way to attend if the game was on the moon). So each year that game seems to be a sold out, raucous event, with a 50/50 crowd. If you're going to do neutral, they do it right.

ACC has seen great improvements in their crowds as well the past 2 years since they moved the game to Charlotte. That has to be the right teams though. Nearly half of the ACC schools will never get half of an NFL neutral stadium no matter where it is (Miami, BC, SU, Pitt, Wake, Duke).

You've clearly never been to the SEC Championship Game. The game is sold out, 50-50. It's insane.

Moving this game to an on-campus affair would be a huge mistake.

again, the SEC is the SEC.

the b1g could pull it off in indy. the bevo likely at jeruh world, provided the right teams get there ie: texas/okie.

its too much for the bigeast to try and fill Giants Stadium, when the fans dont even travel for bowl games.

Kaiser, I was responding to the statement:

For most conferences, especially the NNBE, I would agree... just not for every conference.

For the on-campus championship games, I do believe that the opposing school should have the opportunity to purchase 25-33% of the seats. Unsold tickets would be returned a few days before the game, thereby allowing the host to fill the rest of the seats.

Yeah, I was going to mention an SEC-exception but I figured that'd be understood.

Big Ten might be too.

Not convinced on Big XII. If they got to 12 (how ironic!) and had a champ game in Dallas I'm wondering if they fill that monster stadium with Baylor playing OK State?

What'll be funny is if there is a BE championship game at Yankee Stadium, and it shows the Syracuse ads 15-20 times

The Big Math used to rotate their championship game between larger venues. Cowboy Stadium, Arrowhead, St. Louis, Alamodome, etc..

I only looked at 3 of these games and found:

2003 attendance at Arrowhead was 75,491.
2008 attendance at Arrowhead was 71,004
2009 attendance at Texas Stadium was 76,211

I suspect they'd do something similar this time around, though Jerry might try to get all of the games. While not 100k, 70+k at a neutral site game isn't bad. It does help if there's a near-local team involved.

Hell fans won't travel 45minutes for a home game.
