Big East Final Death Blow?

And with that news the Big East contract negotiations were ended. The Big East should just release the FB members so they can try to save themselves.

The "Big East" will survive, but it may not have a football side in a few years.

Honestly, that may be for the best. A hoops-only, eastern league would be fun for those schools.

I would laugh my arse off if the MWC told them to go join the MAC.

If the Big East wants to retain a football side it needs to release all of the football members and reconstitute with schools within the footprint of the hoops schools. UCONN, Temple, UMASS, Buffalo, Cincy, UCF, USF, ECU and ODU would make a decent fb counterpart to Nova, Georgetown, SJU, Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul, Marquette, Xavier and SLU.

Houston has to be asking if they have room for anyone else.

and SMU. Scrambling to cancel those orders for stationary, unis etc. with BE logo.

With the western schools talking to the MWC, Houston reportedly has an escape clause (conditions to entry), that does not leave much, Memphis, UCF and SMU. The Big 12 can take whomever they like, assuming the PAC 12 does not react.

The Big East was dead when Pitt, WVU and SU left. Nothing left to do now but to go through the pockets for loose change.

Craig James has let it be known he is not happy. Someone look out!

Which "smaller" conference will be the first to "raid" the "bigger" Big East?

It'd be funny if this story turned into Boise State, San Diego State and BYU returning to the Mountain West and Cincinnati trying to go with them.

If Yukon & Rutgers move on then one solution is for the rest to return to their previous conferences... though those may be overbooked now (the new "Super Mid-Majors").

Alternatively: USF, UCF, Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, Temple could form the basis for a new mid-major conference on par with the MWC. There really aren't any other good options in that footprint. If there were they'd already be in the NBE. Other eastern options include WKU, ECU, Marshall, UMass, FAU & FIU.

The core six plus 3 others could play as an independent football conference and continue a cooperation with the remaining hoops-only NBE schools for other sports.
