(LOL... remember the decade when there was no public on-sale)

The prices have been dropped dramatically. You can buy a strip for $180 (400 level) or $255 (200 level).

Last year the retail price for a strip was $455, and that was for anywhere in the arena, including the 400 level.

They must be terrified they are going to lose the Garden to give away tickets at these prices.

BUT BUT all I have heard is that Creighton fans bought 2k ticket packages and that the other Catholic schools like Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's were going to pickup the slack of Syracuse, Louisville, UConn, Pitt fans.

Georgetown, Villanova, Creighton, Marquette will bring a couple of thousand fans, but Xavier, Butler, DePaul are mysteries. Once MSG has barely over 12k for the Big East Tournament hello ACC, B1G, BE dividing up MSG for their conference tournaments.

With the ACC having Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame and Louisville (four of the traditional BE top draws) -- not to mention Duke and UNC (which have a lot of NYC area fans), MSG would be just like it was in the BE hey-day. Those are pretty decent seats in 104

looks like Nova is the class of the new/old conference, but wouldn't it be funny if former Big East teams won the ACC and the AAC, but not the Big East itself?

The league went from 16 to 10 teams, of course demand and prices are going to drop off.

Demand was just fine when it was 10 teams previos to WVU and VT etc coming it. Just a hunch but I'd say the dropoff has more to do with losing Syracuse, Pitt, ND, UConn, LVille, WVU, and Cincy than just numbers.

I received an email from stubhub or whoever the other day telling me Big East Tourney tix were available...

Straight to the trash can

Losing some of those schools is also obviously a big part of it. Demand and prices prior to 96 expansion were nothing like the 16-team era of the conference though.

The more disappointing St. John's is the worse BET attendance will be. They were counting heavily on STJ being good this year and a corresponding big turnout by their fans for the BET. Sorry but Creighton, Xavier, Butler, Marquette are not going to fill up MSG...not even close. Gtown for all their history never had a huge fan presence either. In a couple years MSG will be dying to exercise the escape clause to switch to the ACC.

Georgetown doesn't even have a huge fan presence in DC.

So, why do we hate the Big East?
Because the BBall only schools were responsible for the death of the old BE. But more importantly... its a business decision. BE and AAC truly fall to low level mid-major status and we're pretty much the only major game in the North East for big time recruits.

I really hope the BE wasn't counting on St. John's fans filling up the Garden at the BET. If that is the case, they were doomed to fail from the start.

MSG needs to get a real conference in there for the conference tourney. ACC needs to be pushing hard for that because the B10 could very easily swoop in since its a better bball conference.

It may be a better conference in terms of having more highly rated teams at the moment, but the style of play is typically so bad that I couldn't imagine sitting through their tournament. Are people able to stomach 4 or 5 of those rock fights in a row?

I don't hate the Big East I just hated the leadership that never did anything to take care of the long term problems once the conference survived to the 1990's. I talked about this in my VPI thread. The Big East leadership would take care of the small Catholic schools Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and make sure they got UConn, Syracuse, Pitt at home more than other schools to fillup their arenas. Virginia Tech was in the Big East for 4 years and never hosted Syracuse at home ONE time. Plus, I love MSG for the conference tournament and the only way the ACC can get in their is for the Big East not to fill the arena up.

Cricket phones will be the new sponsor since that's all they will be able to hear during these games.

It might be a better basketball conference today, but I don't think OSU, MSU, Wisconsin and Indiana resonate quite like Duke, UNC, Louisville and Syracuse do.

I don't understand why everybody is crapping on the Big East so bad. I for one loved the BE and would have preferred everything to stay the same. Outside of Duke and UNC the ACC schedule looks rather boring and like a weak ooc schedule.

Don't know why you guys feel the need to stomp on the BE while it's down, it's something Syracuse help build and made it into the best basketball conference by far and a top football conference at one point. Their basketball isn't even that bad right now.
