read an article on this the other day the estimated that if this comes to fruition some major changes take place. the estimate was that ESPN would be able to charge $30, from the sounds of it a large number of niche channels would go away somewhere around 70% . the biggest news is that the current infrastructure cant handle it. comcast can only handle about 60 streaming hours per household per week before they start capping things. not so bad 7-10 hrs a day.. but when you factor in houses that now currently DVR 2 or more feeds and houses that have 2-3-4-5 tvs running with families , the pipeline would soon be overwhelmed. the internet costs would soon go up and for those with 1 choice you have issues.. those with multiple ISP choices might see something else. higher rates to get more bandwidth or lower fees with less quality.
so in the end the cable bill of $50-100 with dvr and multiple feeds doesnt look so bad for 200 channels when you start paying higher ISP charges with Caps and $50-75 rates for 5-10 channels..
as the articles say you pay for those 5-10 channels now and it supports all the others, when all those channels shut down the income has to come from someplace so higher rates for everything thats left.
and wait until the decide to really shut down all the pirated feeds which isnt all that hard to do, if the shows come from the ISP they will know what streams you can see and unless the shows get the headers ripped, which is hard to do with live feeds, suddenly you only get what you pay for, you end up with a bill slightly smaller, slower internet, and way less content..
