Big Recruiting Weekend for the Orange

I think Noel will be taking Rak's minutes and not Fab's. Noel will be a 4 in the NBA. He would get eaten up at the 5 in the pro game in his first few years. I think as his body develops he will be able to push inside more (again at the pro level not the college, I think he could play the 5 and dominate at the college level). I think KG would be a great comparison to Noel. I like this video of the match up between Noel and Steven Adam's, a 7'0 footer going to SPitt. It gives you a glance at competition at a higher level.

It depends on Fab returning. I think he's gone, same with Dion.

1.)Carter-Williams
2.)Triche
3.)Fair
4.)Christmas
5.)Noel

That's what our lineup will, most likely, look like next year (Including Noel).

I agree, if Fab leaves and we get Noel, I see Coleman playing the roll of Rak this year; that hybrid 4/5.

Dejaun Coleman starts from day 1.

Could Noel be a Tyson Chandler type player in the nba? Defense, energy, putbacks, pick and roll

I wouldn't be surprised to see Christmas, Coleman and Noel splitting time in the 4/5 positions. Who starts is a moot point and I'd venture a guess that out of the 3 whoever is producing will get minutes.

I think it all depends on IF Fab stays or goes. If Fab stay's, I see either Noel starting at the 4 or backing up Rak and then pushing for major minutes or visa versa with Coleman backing up Fab. The two things that really make it interesting is: 1. What Fab is going to do and 2. How does Rak develop in the off season. The knock on Rak is that he is a bit lazy; Is he willing to put in the time to fulfill his potential? I think Rak has all the potential in the world, but, if he doesn't put in the time and effort, I see Noel starting over him period no questions about it.

No one knows what Fab is going to do and we can only speculate. I think his progression as a player will advance a lot more if he stays than if he goes. The argument is that your soul focus as a pro is bball. IMHO it is hard to gain meaningful game-time minutes when you are relegated to the pine. Young men put way to much emphasis on the idea of the "potential" hype. Although, who can argue with the money that you will make when sitting a bench? It sure is more than what you make as a starter in college. If they are looking at the paycheck, I think they need to put more focus on the potential of a bigger contract when coming in as a more developed player and less on "the hype".

I feel the same way about Dion. I think at the end of the season they will both sit down with JB and the staff and discuss what is best for them. I think Dion's stock has taken a bit of a hit as of late and, in the big picture, it all depends on how they play through the rest of the season, who comes out, and if they can keep their egos in check . I would suggest that both players would benefit immensely from one more year. I think Fab is just now starting to realize the lower levels of how good he can be (as JB has stated; he is at about 30% of what he can/will be), and I think Dion needs a year as a starter to show that he is more than just a 6th man ( he is a good player but such things matter to NBA scouts). All and all I must say that, "IT IS GOOD TO BE AN ORGANGEMEN". Not many fanatics boards are able to have such discussions. Go ORANGEMEN! Euthanize those HUSKIES!

In Tyson Chandler's dreams. Think Kevin Durant meets Anthony Davis. I am enamored with Mr. Noel. He's one of the best HS players I've ever seen.

I think the ceiling is higher than that.

the #1 player in the class would not be coming here to come off the bench..noel starts from day 1

Are you kidding or are actually saying he can shoot NBA range 3's?

He can shoot them, they just wouldn't go in...
Certainly I'm not saying that he has the perimeter skills are at Durant's level, even at the same age. But..Noel is more skilled than Davis (who is no slouch) on the perimeter, and he is much more of a force defensively than Durant. Hence the Davis meets Durant comparison.

Good article.

Just a quick edit: change "whole" in the middle to "hole" in the middle, where you are referencing Anthony Davis.

OK ... if Fab leaves (likely) and we get Noel ... no question Coleman and Noel start. Coleman at the 5 and Noel at the 4. Noel will likely be a 4 in the NBA and will want to work on that position anyway. RAK backs up Noel and Keita/RAK back up Coleman. Grant moves behind CJ. Its the guards ... always the guards. If Dion leaves (likely) BT at the 2, MCW at the 1. Whitehot backs up at the 2. If we can get Ennis ... MCW starts at the 1 and Ennis backs up. BT rotates but starts at the 2 with Whitehot backing at the 2. Noel is here for only 1 year ... we get Anya to move in 2013. See, simple.

DC2 is strictly a 5. At a widebody 280 lbs. he is not going to be covering the wing in the zone. He is a post up pure center. If Fab returns, NN would play the 4. He absolutely has the quickness to cover the wing and still recover to give weakside help inside. If Fab departs, NN could start at the 5 with DC 2 backing him up or play the 4 with Coleman starting at the 5. We should only be so lucky.

Couldn't disagree more. Christmas will start at the 4 over Coleman.

Why do you think that because Christmas is so tough and aggressive inside?

Coleman is the local JD product who they’ve been recruiting since junior high. He could’ve picked anywhere. He didn’t. Loyalty and promises will come in to play – just like they did for Brandon. He’s going to start and you can take it to the bank.

Whether it's the 4 or the 5 doesn't matter but he's going to start.

If Fab stays (which I sincerely doubt, prob about 20% chance) and we got NN (which I'd guess is prob around 50/50) we might have one of the 5 greatest collection of bigs in college basketball that have played over the last 10-15 years. I think we'd be
pretty hard pressed to name more than 5 collections of bigs on a team over the past 10-15 years that are better. Of course it would be all hypothetical since NN hasn't played a college game yet. We'd undoubtedly be named the prohibitive favorite next year if the above scenario occurred.

Then again we could lose Fab and not get Nerlens... alas, it was better when I was dreaming lol. Fun to think about haha

If Starters:
1. MCW
2. Triche
3. Fair
4. Coleman
5. Noel

Hmm Bench of:

1. ?
2. Cooney
3. South / Grant / Xmas
4. South / Grant / Xmas
5. Kieta/Xmas

Except for the point, we'd have another second 5 that could probably finish in the top half of the Big East. I Dion returns? Sickness.
