Frankly I can't find a single position that is so weak as to create a losing or Medicare season next fall. Corner backs which are in doubt will or should be restocked by the next season rolls around.Anyone got anything on another position that is wanting? I'd love to know what it is???:noidea:

Well, we will need a new starting QB. That's not insignificant.

Nah we're good. Direct snaps to the RBs on every play.

No not insignificant but this time we have excellent contenders for the position. Talent and size wise I like this group.

Ok, but outside of Long, it will be untested freshmen. Long did ok in a season in which he was supposed to redshirt and played behind a Swiss cheese o-line.

I hope we won't have another Medicare season next year.

I know that the %s here don't mean squat I think the big difference this year is going to be Lester . Some of the freshmen might show up big like the RBs and LBers but I can see a lot of red-shirting going on I can only hope there has been an adjustment in the S&C to keep the kids healthy. The OL players will benefit big for next year as well as the LBer corp. If the secondary can be stabilized it bodes well for this year and next Unless there is a radical issue that I can't see I'm sticking with 2016 as an arrival year for us in the ACC. Some of the better programs are going to be rethinking their game with us. We are not going to be the push-over that they have seen before way too often

QB and Left Tackle

The O-line will be a concern for sure. We lose Foy and Trudo, right? That's very significant, maybe even more so than who's taking snaps.

At least we brought in an entire O-line class this year. We'll need some of those guys to be ready. As much as I don't want to believe it, I don't think Ward ever gets it together. Roberts looks like a good one. Future all conference kid there. I think AJ Duerig will become a nice center as well.

The OL freshmen coming in THIS fall who will red-shirt Adam is going to be a great player for the Orange there are a couple others who are highly rated. I expect that the OL may be even better next year than at the present level. I include Donnie Foster at center who has drawn excellent reviews from the coaches and might be the starter next year in there. I love his size at center. Not too tall and not over the top weight wise. Give him a couple quality guards on his flank and the interior is secure .Emerich has never impressed me with his field play or his results in S&C. This year's incoming freshmen will play a large part of the success next year.Who ever emerges as the feature back this year e.g Strickland or Fredericks will be paired with Washington assuming he doesn't flip.We also have some big time defensive line players coming in THIS yeare.g. Clark,Pickard Sheppard and Amir. The only real question is the secondary.I expect Blair will be as good as Eskridge or better.

I agree with you on the Running backs, D-line and Safety which is why I didn't mention them. I think the talent across the whole team is getting upgraded big time though. We are in a good spot talent-wise for the next 2-4 years. I hope 2016 is a breakout year with the young guys growing a little bit, but I'm actually eyeing 2017 as my possible breakout year. I think we will have our most complete roster from top to bottom by then.

It probably depends on what you mean by a "big year". I remember that sports writers said it would take a decade for SU to get to a competitive level in the ACC Atlantic Division. By my calendar, we still have a way to go. :noidea:

I worry that our biggest replacement next year will be at head coach. If we win 4 or less this year, I fear that Coyle won't wait for Shafe to get it right. With a new coach will come massive decommits, transfers, new assistants, and then we're right back to square 1.
For the record, I don't feel Shaefer loses his job barring an absolute dumpster fire of a season. However, who knows how our new A.D. feels about it.

It would be out fourth change of head coach, (and with it, the coaching staff) in 11 years. You can't build a program that way.

2017/2018 i think we'll have legitimate shots at winning the division if we find a stable Quarterback.

We will have top knotch linebackers.
A solid veteran D-line.
Blair leading the DB's.
The MF'ing Hoff.

44
Moe Neal/Erv/Perkins/Stubbs
Ish/Custis/Enoicy and whatever other skilled players emerge.

...only other question may be our O line. But Byrne/Conway and Clausman look good.

While I'm in total agreement, coyle wasn't here for any of that, he doesn't have a Hc hire yet. If he feels Shafer isn't/can't/won't ever be the guy, he has an obligation to replace him as soon as possible, and then has to get the hire right. now personally I believe in Shafers way of doing things off the fiel, building a family, and it's starting to attract the recruits we want. But there's more to it than that, he has to get it together on the field and help us win more games for his way of doing things to really take off.

That said purely for Washington and Davis commits alone, he deserves to stay beyond this year, get RW on campus and see what happens on the field in 2016 before we make a change. That's how I'd play it, but I'm not a coyle and he may have a very different plan.

I am sure there is a post somewhere where people predicted 2015 would be our break out year. The problem is it's always next year...

I remember when I thought we'd be ok in 2007.

I'd say around midway thru the 3rd quarter of the Washington game was when my confidence in knowing anything about this sport shattered for good. I still don't have it back.

Problem is we haven't played 2015 yet and it very well could be our "breakout"

Keep the faith!

TH for heisman.

I see 2017 as the strong year:

HCSS is not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. He has a better record than coach Mac when he started. Actually, the HC trend mirrors the historical trend of SU football when towards the end of Ben ( like P) things started going south (literally, the population in the NE started moving south and we lost very critical recruiting grounds here in NE and had to become more national in recruiting), Maloney took over and we continued on the downward slide (GRob but not nearly as bad), Mac took over and it took him a few years and one Carrier Dome to get it going (HCSS got the practice facility and will get a new renovated Dome;eventually/possibly). I am counting HCDM and HCSS as a two headed monster towards getting us back.

As much heat that HCDM catches on here, he must be given credit for doing the nasty thankless job of cleaning up the mess left at the end of P's tenure along with the complete sink job that HCGR did. We did take a bit of a recruit hit when HCDM left but SS recruiting is much better than HCDM who got very solid players who played very solid football. This was essential to getting us out of the media spotlight of being in ESPN's "Bottom 10" every week season after season.

Although Gross hired Greg he has to also be credited in getting us the facilities and into the ACC. This is something that Shaw said couldn't be done. I remember at the end of his tenure Shaw saying that the Astroturf could not be replaced, shortly after Gross was hired, it was replaced. We were light years behind in facilities when Gross took over.

I count 2014 as a display of Murphy's Law along with a sacrifice to the Football "Higher Intelligent Beings". Like Greg, we should just let a lying dog lie.

Coyle is a very smart man when it comes to all this and I am sure he will do what he needs to do to get us where we should be; he also has Syverud's strong support.

Hope we don't have to sign up for Medicare Part B in 2016. I said doctor is there nothing I can take?

Syverud hired Coyle and I get the feeling that they are from the same mold: deliberate personalities not given to snap decisions. Barring a 2014-like disaster, I believe that HCSS has a pass to the end of his contract and probably a year after that.

That's not a problem at all. Hoping each year will be better is called "being a fan"...
