We all know Gill/Brogdon/Tobey are going to kill us on offense. We need Perentes have an off night.

We need Malachi Richardson to shoot like he did against UVA at John Paul Jones Arena. We need Cooney/Gbinije/Lydon to make some buckets. We need Roberson to be plugged in like has this tournament. We need Howard to give us some good minutes and Coleman's 5 fouls.

If we shoot greater than 45% we have a chance. If we don't I can't see Syracusew winning as UVA will have more stretches than Gonzaga did at carving up the zone.

If I were JB I would want to take London Perentes out of this game and his outside shooting. Tobey/Gill will do their double post a lot against the weak side of the zone make them take/make post shots and get limit 2nd chance points.

We had to make 13 treys vs UVa in January to be in the game. Malachi was 6-10 and G was 5-9. And we still lost. SU will have to shoot the lights out to win. The saving grace may be that neither Roberson or Lydon played well in that game. Lydon had 4 points and Roberson 6 points and 7 rebs. So if they both play a lot better that will help.

UVA was 8 for 18 from 3. That wasn't too shabby and they made over 60% of their 2 point shots.

Our D will not stop UVA. They are a machine against the zone. We need to shoot over 45% and take out one of Perentes or Brogdon.

I wouldn't assume anything will go the same way as the first meeting. The stakes are higher now and this is a neutral court.
And they aren't traveling and playing on the same day. You can throw that whole game out the widow .

From 2011 till the Elite 8 in 2013 we were 1-3 against Buzz Williams led Marquette teams. The one win in 2012 was a close game we barely survived when Kris Joseph got hurt.

In that Elite Eight game we played lights out D and shutdown Marquette. I don't think we can play that level of D but we can conquer the Virginia demons tomorrow.

No winter storm. Neutral court. We played them to a push in the second half. We shot 39% from the field and missed eight FGs below the foul line. We more than doubled them up in offensive rebounds.

This will be tough. unlike Gonzaga, I don't think we can come back against UVa. I think we have to take chances early to get up right at the start and hang on

Lydon and Roberson are completely different players now that they were the first matchup. I really hope we see s lot of pick and pop with Lydon. It'll make Gill or Tobey have to come out of the paint. In the first matchup, he was in his I don't want to shoot funk. Tomorrow he needs to be aggressive. This game is going to be won on the three point line. I think we need to make 12 threes to win.

We will need help from the refs. By that I mean the refs can't let UVA bump and slap and push, while hitting us for ticky-tack fouls, esp inside. The refs can't allow Tobey to run amok like McGary did for Michigan a few years ago. We need calls against them when we drive - we may be able to take advantage of Perrantes's smaller size. We can't any of our key players lose time to foul trouble.

Feels daunting.

Unfortunately, Malware(thanks to swc75 for that!) has been a completely different player than he was that game too. Let's hope that changes!!

BTW, OttoInGrotto, the official arbiter of nicknames, hasnt weighed in yet that I've seen. OIG, come forth!

We could see Brogdon on G. If that's the case then it could be struggle city. They may do that to cut the head off of the snake.

They will def do that. Will need other players to step up or hopefully G to get Brogden in foul trouble

Two #1 seeds lost today. No reason two more can't lose tomorrow.

(or later today now that i see the time. lol.)
Well, it certainly would be a huge upset. A 10 seed has never gone to the FF, never! We will be making history, but I think this whole improbable march through the tourney is already making history!

I think G is quicker than Brogdon. And Perrantes has to be guarding someone bigger than him. Those are exploitable advantages, however slight. And Lydon is quicker than their bigs. If he can hit some threes, UVA will be forced to make some uncomfortable adjustments.

Maybe, just maybe, JB has a few tricks up his sleeve for UVA and he's been waiting for the right moment to use them.
Like Man to Man defense? That would blow everybody mind.

Tyler Roberson's defense and rebounding are critical tonight along with Lydon's all around game. Neither was a major contributor in CVille in January. Bottom line..If SU plays it's game SU wins. Going too be a battle! We are SU!

I guess I don't see it the way most of you do. Our defense is MUCH better in this tournament than when we played them before so I do not see them just shredding the zone. They will have to work hard and hit contested shots. Offensively, I expect SU to be more balanced than before. Roberson has been a beast, Coleman is so much better, Lydon and Mali are no longer rookies, Frank Howard is now providing quality depth, and we have great senior leadership, with an unparalleled captain at the wheel. Although a 10 seed has never progressed further than this, I believe we are far better than a 10 seed now that we are playing the way we should be. We were a 10 based on the way we finished, not what our potential is. If UVA fans say they are not nervous or they are confident, they are fools or liars. Nobody wants to play the beast with a huge Orange heart right now.

Good call out on Franklin Howard. His confidence is growing each game and is evident. Love his passing and court vision.
