its much more important to have big wins than to avoid bad losses. if we lost to uconn, a&m (we wouldnt have played them if we lost to uconn, but point still stands) and duke, but beat gtown st johns and clemson i bet we dont get in.

the committee wants to know if you can beat good teams, thats most important. anybody can have a bad loss or 2, but not everyone can go into cameron and win or beat a&m on a neutral court. plus i would argue not many teams could play miami unc and uva close all on the road, not sure if the eye test played a role there.

i remember when we beat duke i said we just got our signature road win, just take care of business at home and we're in. well we slipped up against pitt at home but the bahamas run and winning at cameron was enough.

I would also say a big lesson, at least as it regards this board, is to listen to the people who put a lot of time into researching the resumes of all the at large candidates.

I think this is for sure, trading 3 good to great wins for 3 meh wins. I wonder for instance, if you swapped the A&M win, turned that into a loss, and then beat St. Johns and Clemson.

And at least some of those big wins should come on the road or at a true neutral site (which means not the Garden - I don't think anyone really gives us netural site credit if we beat someone at the Garden...)

on the other side of the coin, lets say hops triple disaster never happened and we win those...im not sure we jump much. maybe to a 7 and likely end up staring at a 2 seed in round 2 anyway.

weird year.

Yeah I can't see it moving the needle too much; probably a 7 at the absolute best, and more likely in the 8-9 game.

Something I noticed when looking at the seed list, and not sure it was mentioned; Pitt beat us all 3 times and were just 2 spots ahead of us.

This SU team has demonstrated that it can lose to any team no matter how bad they are at the same time can beat any team no matter what seed they are.

Hoyas: 106
Clemson: 131
St. John's: 246

They are expected wins but are bad losses..so they are no help...

Agreed. It's not like you are getting to a protected seed if you reverse those.

exactly, and thats better in the committee's eyes. if a team beats every bad team they play and loses to every good team they play thats not gonna get you in the tournament. you need some signature wins if youre a bubble team or a mid major.

Combination of some bad losses (NC State at home, @ Clemson) and the fact their OOC schedule was awful...no road games and only one good opponent (Purdue) whom they played, and lost to, at home...

The committee liked our resume.

Cooney hits that shot we either take their 10, or go to 9.

I'm fine with where we landed.

Well, Except for mich st in rnd 2.

yea everything worked out perfect for us except that potential 2nd round matchup. imagine if that was nova or oregon? we'd be have sweet 16 visions right now.

Question is what will move the committee next year? There never seems to be a consistent "this is how you get in".

true. thats what calipari was saying yesterday on espn. but the "who did you play, who did you beat" theory is pretty much used every year i think. we played alot of good teams, especially on the road, and beat enough of them to give me confidence, especially compared to other bubble teams.

State is an excellent team, but Boeheim has Izzo's number winning 4 in a row against him.

And no doubt on some MSU message board there are posters soiling themselves over this.
