Yes, Nassib made a couple bad throws (although he completed 30 passes for 320 yards). But he led the comeback again, and they kept fighting to the end.

Sure, our running game was up and down, but it was against the #2 team in the country.

Yes, our DBs didn't tackle as well as they needed to, but those were some big, strong NFL caliber wide receivers that young players like Reddish and Desir were going up against.

To me, the biggest positive of the game was our line play, on both sides of the ball. Really solid. I would dare say that our lines played their lines pretty even. We put up as many yards as Southern Cal did. We stopped them quite a few times when we had to, like on a couple of those 4th downs where the Trojans went for it (especially that one on their own 40, where we took it right in for the score).

We were competitive. We hit hard. We didn't give up. Against the #2 team in the country. Nobody in the Big East is this good, and OK we gave up too many big plays, but we gave them a legitimate contest.

We are going to be a pretty good team in conference, if we can stop giving up so many big plays. I still see this team going 7-5 and making a bowl game, if the kids keep their heads on straight.

And we didn't even have our best lineman out there either - do we know if Pugh comes back next week?

Was Lou Alexander benched or injured in the second half? He sat in a chair behind the bench during the second half and was replaced by Andrew Phillips.

Yep, all of that with 2 starters out, and a couple of the new guys on defense not really into the rotation yet. I'll take that kind of effort from the lines anytime. After 2 games, Nassib has been sacked, what, 3 times?

I don't think they will bring him back for Stony Brook. Have to think Minnesota is the earliest.

Benched. I saw him get yanked. Adkins was not happy with Big Lou.

Big Lou has struggled, but honestly I don't think he's been much worse than Hay was last year. The bar has been raised, and Phillips is serviceable.

Macky is so much better this year, Chibane's returned to form, the guards have done well, an whole I know they're playing different positions, I've been more impressed by Hickey than I was by Tiller.

So happy with the line play this far, and I can't wait till Pugh's back.

Lou got benched. The juco DE beat him like a drum. In fairness to Lou that kid is another future pro. I thought AP did a good job. In fact, I'm still a bit shocked he didn't win the position to begin with.

Add to that list...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember a holding call against the OL in either game...just someone mentioning the Hay name and I want to start throwing yellow flags around my office..

Don't remember a False Start penalty against USC...cleaning up from the NW mess

I would hope the line play has proven to be good enough to let us keep Pugh out against SB...wait until Big East play to bring him back unless he's truly ready and would like a tune-up game.

I would think stonybrook would be a good game for him to get a few series in, if he's ready. I would like to see him ready to go full tilt for minn.

That sack on Barkley in the first half was awesome. The pocket collapsed on him from all sides and he was caught in a vise. The replay from the back side angle was great.

I like having Phillips as a utility player.

He's experienced, he's serviceable, and he has experience at both tackle spots.

I really don't mind him playing behind Alexander. I like having an insurance policy.

Three things:

1. There was a bad false start penalty to start the fourth quarter. That first 30 seconds really lost the game.

2. Maybe Alexander is a better run blocker than Phillips? He's got quite a bit more beef.

3. Where the feck have you been IthacaMatt?
