Powerhouse teams continue to pad their schedules by playing over-matched opponents instead of giving us what we want: powerhouses vs. powerhouses. In response, I’m going to post a weekly fantasy. I’ll take the two largest offensive scores rolled up by ranked teams and create a 'game' between them by listing all their scoring plays as if they occurred in the same game. Our first Blow-out bowl of the season pits two old southern rivals against each other: 16th ranked Georgia Tech vs.17th ranked Mississippi. Enjoy! FIRST QUARTER 12:50 Justin Thomas runs for 13 yards for a Tech TD. Jackets 7 Rebels 0 11:06 Jaylen Walton 60 yard Run for the Rebs but a two point failed. (Greedy). Jackets 7 Rebels 6 8:47 Patrick Skov ran for 3 yards for a Tech TD. They botched the conversion. Jackets 13 Rebels 6 6:42 Jaylen Walton runs for 4 yards for an Ole Miss TD. They settle for one. Jackets 13 Rebels 13 5:28 Chad Kelly hits Markell Pack for 56 yards for a TD to take the lead Jackets 13 Rebels 20 5:24 Isiah Willis run for 1 yard for a TD, (four second later) to tie it. Jackets 20 Rebels 20 2:39 Justin Thomas finds Micheal Summers for 19 yards for a TD. Jackets 27 Rebels 20 1:06 Ryan Buchanan hits Quincy Adeboyejo for 15 yards for a TD. Jackets 27 Rebels 27 1:06 Marcus Marshall run for 49 yards for a TD. (Using two balls?) Jackets 34 Rebels 27 Quite a first quarter- 61 points!. (The two balls help- interesting idea.) SECOND QUARTER 12:35 Ryan Buchanan pass complete to Robert Nkemdiche for 31 yards for a TD. Jackets 34 Rebels 34 11:34 Patrick Skov run for 21 yards for a TD. Jackets 41 Rebels 34 6:19 Tim Byerly run for 8 yards for a TD. (Pouring it on!) Jackets 48 Rebels 34 3:15 Chad Kelly pass complete to Cody Core for 57 yards for a TD. Jackets 48 Rebels 41 They decided to play a little defense. THIRD QUARTER 9:09 Trae Elston 93 yard Interception Return ties it up again. Jackets 48 Rebels 48 5:29 Patrick Skov run for 4 yards for a TD to get Tech’s lead back. Jackets 55 Rebels 48 4:56 Chad Kelly run for 20 yards for a TD to tie it again Jackets 55 Rebels 55 1:03 Marcus Marshall run for 64 yards for a TD to untie it. Jackets 62 Rebels 55 It will all come down to the fourth quarter. FOURTH QUARTER 12:09 Brady Swilling run for 1 yard for a TD. That should do it! Jackets 69 Rebels 55 10:27 DeVante Kincade to DaMarkus Lodge 12 yards for a TD. Not so fast! Jackets 69 Rebels 62 7:34 Eugene Brazley runs for 70 yards for a TD. Look out!!! Jackets 69 Rebels 69 1:44 D.K. Buford runs for 20 yards for a TD. And we have a WINNER! Jackets 69 Rebels 76 Georgia Tech ran for 476 yards. They only passed for 77, so their lack of balance may have hurt them. Mississippi had apparently figured out how to stop the triple option by the fourth quarter, (please call Scott Shafer). They did have 26 first downs and lost only one fumble. But Mississippi’s attack was more balanced and, in the end, more productive: 338 yards rushing and 324 passing, for a total of for a total of 662, (to 553), with 28 first downs and one turnover, an interception. Tech’s Patrick Skov only ran for 72 yards but scored 3 times. Marcus Marshall only scored twice but got 184 yards on only 8 carries. Justin Thomas ran and passed for a score. Three different guys ran for touchdowns for the Rebels, four different receivers caught touchdown passes from three different quarterbacks and they got pick 6. (Would Quincy Adeboyejo or Robert Nkemdiche have bene playing for them if Ross Barnett was still the Governor?) We missed a great game!
