Powerhouse teams continue to pad their schedules by playing over-matched opponents instead of giving us what we want: powerhouses vs. powerhouses. You sometimes wonder if they aren’t competing with each other to see who can run up the biggest score, more than against the pathetic team they’re actually sharing the field with. In response, I’m going to post a weekly fantasy. I’ll take the two largest offensive scores rolled up by ranked teams and created a game between them by listing all their scoring plays as if they occurred in the same game. In our second Blow-Out bowl, defending champion and 17th ranked Mississippi takes on the #3 ranked Horned Frogs of Texas Christian. FIRST QUARTER 11:56 Chad Kelly finds Cody Core for 14 yards for a TD to give Ole Miss the early lead. Rebels 7 Frogs 0 8:26 Chad Kelly runs it in from 4 yards for another TD and the Rebels are off and running. Rebels 14 Frogs 0 6:51 The Frogs need to get going and they do: Aaron Green runs for 2 yards for a TD. Rebels 14 Frogs 7 4:30 But the rebels haven’t stopped Chad Kelly to Quincy Adeboyejo for 16 yards for a TD. Rebels 21 Frogs 7 3:40 The Frogs still have legs. Aaron Green runs for 7 yards for a TD. Rebels 21 Frogs 14 1:57 Brand new ballgame: Trevone Boykin pass complete to Kolby Listenbee for 60 yards for a TD. Rebels 21 Frogs 21 1:23 But not for long: Chad Kelly pass complete to Quincy Adeboyejo for 50 yards for a TD. Rebels 28 Frogs 21 SECOND QUARTER 13:27 Here come the Frogs: Trevone Boykin pass complete to KaVontae Turpin for 6 yards for a TD. Rebels 28 Frogs 28 11:34 Ribbit: Trevone Boykin pass complete to Ja'Juan Story for 9 yards for a TD. Rebels 28 Frogs 35 4:15 And we’re tied at the half: Chad Kelly pass to Quincy Adeboyejo for 44 yards for a TD. Rebels 35 Frogs 35 THIRD QUARTER 11:23 That tongue lashes out again: Trevone Boykin pass to Emanuel Porter for 3 yards for a TD. Rebels 35 Frogs 42 10:30 It does take long to tie these games up: Robert Nkemdiche runs for 1 yard for a TD. Rebels 42 Frogs 42 9:39 And it doesn’t take long to untie them: Chason Virgil pass intercepted for a TD Trae Elston return for 38 yards for a TD. Rebels 49 Frogs 42 9:37 Two seconds later, (how did they get the ball back?) Hunter Taylor pass intercepted for a TD Denzel Johnson return for 50 yards for a TD. Rebels 49 Frogs 49 6:29 The Frogs show their horns: Kyle Hicks run for 1 yard for a TD, Rebels 49 Frogs 56 4:50 Fit to be tied again. Akeem Judd run for 27 yards for a TD. Rebels 56 Frogs 56 FOURTH QUARTER 14:25 Gulp! The Frogs swallow another TD. Bram Kohlhausen pass complete to Jaelan Austin for 16 yards for a TD, Rebels 56 Frogs 63 12:11 Never big a field goal to a touchdown fight. Gary Wunderlich 37 yard FG Rebels 59 Frogs 63 7:40 Unless you can score as many touchdowns as the other guys: Eugene Brazley runs for 6 yards for a TD Rebels 66 Frogs 63 6:24 And score even more than they do: Ford Childress pass intercepted for a TD Chief Brown return for 22 yards for a TD. Rebels 73 Frogs 63 4:02 Too little, too late: Colten Christensen run for 3 yards for a TD. Rebels 73 Frogs 70 Ole Miss doesn’t look so old after scoring 146 points in their first two games. Chad Kelly was 20 for 25 for 346 yards and 4 scores. Quincy Adeboyejo caught three of those and averaged 24 yards on 5 catches. They used a running back by committee, (10 guys: nobody got more than 48 yards or a single TD) to rush for 215 yards at 6.1 yards a pop for 4 more scores. They also had two pick sixes to one. But it all came down to a little ol’ 37 yard field goal. TCU’s Trevone Boykin was 18 for 27 for 285 yards and 3 scores. Kolby Listerbee caught 6 for 142 yards and a score. They also had 11 different guys run for 245 yards, (5.0) per carry) and 4TDs. We missed a great game!
