I just got home from "Raise the River," a fund-raising event in the 1000 Islands for the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. In a word, it was fabulous... and I'm sorry didn't post something about it before it occurred.
Although it did not get much advance publicity, it was attended by several hundred people, most of whom seemed to be from the Syracuse area. It was put together by some Boeheim family friends who have summer homes on Wellesley Island... and it included a cruise on a huge luxury boat (owned by a friend), followed by a party at the 1000 Islands Club (drinks, plentiful food, silent auction and live auction conducted by JB (who has become an excellent auctioneer). Several former players, SU trustees and members of the SU Athletic Department attended. A highlight of the event was Doug Logan's introduction of Jim. It was so good to see Doug and to chat briefly with him.
This event is just as much fun as April's "Basket Ball" ... and considerably less expensive. If they decide to hold one next year, I will be sure to post something about it in advance.
By the way, I stayed at the new 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton. What a fantastic venue. Right on the water with every amenity possible. I would seriously recommend it. Although it is very new, it hosted three wedding receptions during the three days I was there ... which shows how popular it has already become.
